Job Description Job Title: Peer Review Administrator Submit Resume to: Recruiting@spe.org SUMMARY Proactively support the Editorial Review Committee to ensure prompt and high-quality decisions on papers submitted for peer review. Communicate with authors on the status of papers in peer review. Track papers through the peer review process using SPE’s computerized peer review system and coordinate with IT on updates to that system. Serves as internal and external champion for the importance and value of peer review. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Act as staff liaison to the Executive Editors and Associate Editors including maintaining rosters, issuing invitations, attending meetings of the review committees, and preparing/distributing minutes from those meetings. Recommend process improvements or other changes to the Executive Editors and Associate Editors to ensure prompt and high-quality review decisions Provide support to Executive Editors and Associate Editors including reports and information to assist them in completing their volunteer activities Organize and facilitate the annual Technical Editor Workshop, including securing instructors, updating materials and issuing invitations Organize the Technical Editor Reception held annually in conjunction with the Technical Editor Workshop Support the Executive Editors in identifying and selecting Outstanding Technical Editors, and prepare the awards for presentation at the annual Technical Editor Workshop Responsible for monitoring review assignments, status of papers in review, and statistics on review performance Respond to author inquiries about the status of review of their papers and procedures for submitting revised manuscripts Serve as an advocate for getting timely review decisions for authors, working with Associate Editors Communicate peer review decisions to authors with required reviewer comments Monitor the electronic peer review system; identify and report problems and needed enhancements, and conduct user acceptance testing for upgrades to the system Provide support to review committee members in the use of the electronic peer review system Generate reports on peer review for staff, committee leadership and the SPE Board Work with the staff on timely responses to requests for publication of full SPE papers that may be in peer review at the time. LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to communicate effectively. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. REASONING ABILITY Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
