Transient Approval Guidelines
(Read carefully before submitting a request)
General Education courses:
 Submit Transient Approval forms to the Registrar’s Office for all General Education courses that are not
math, science, or engineering courses (See next guideline for exceptions)

Submit Transient Approval forms to the Registrar’s Office only for the following math and science General
Education courses:
o MATH 133 and lower level math courses, MATH 201, PHYS 231, and PHYS 232

Engineering and Computer Science majors may submit Transient Approval forms to the Chair of Engineering
for General Education engineering courses.
Major courses:
 Submit Transient Approval forms to the department chairperson where the Required Course is housed for
major courses. (If Technical Elective course, see next guideline.)
Technical Elective courses (Engineering majors only):
 Transient Approval forms must be approved by the department chairpersons where both the Major AND the
Required Course are housed. Two (2) signatures are required for Technical Electives.
Minor courses:
 Submit Transient Approval forms to the Registrar’s Office for all minor courses, with the exception of
Business Management Information Systems and Computer Science minor courses.
o Business Management Information Systems and Computer Science minors must submit Transient
Approval forms to the department chairpersons where the minor is housed.
Courses taken at Virginia\North Carolina community colleges:
 Courses planning to be taken at Virginia and North Carolina community colleges that are included in the
‘Liberty University-Virginia Community College System (VCCS) Equivalency Guide and the ‘Liberty
University-North Carolina Community College System (NCCCS) Equivalency Guide’, respectively, do not
require a transient approval (See next guideline for exceptions)

Engineering majors planning to take natural science technical elective courses at a Virginia\North Carolina
community college must be approved by the Chair of Engineering and the department chairperson where
the technical elective course is housed.

No transient approval is needed at all for Computer Science majors to take courses at Virginia\North
Carolina community colleges, as long as the course equivalencies are listed in the LU-VCCS and LU-NCCCS
Equivalency Guides.

Supply all the required information; then follow the guidelines indicated above
Provide course syllabus for each course in question
Seek the approval of the appropriate Approver (see table below)
Submit the completed request to the Registrar’s office lutransfer@liberty.edu
Expect an evaluation results sent through email. (Give ample time for research.)
