The Royal Park Murder by Alanna Knight Mandy

The book is about a murder that happened in a park at midnight. The main character in this story is called Ann Kelty. She lived with her father in an apartment with a turret and spiral staircase. Her father, Hamish Kelty, had his own bookstore. Sometimes, Ann would help her father in the bookstore in the holidays. One day, Ann’s father came back home with his shirt covered in blood. When Ann saw her father, she was confused because she did not know why her father’s shirt was stained with blood. After her father took off his jacket and shirt, Ann had another nasty surprise: there was a knife in her father’s jacket, was a knife. She felt very puzzled and confused. She was worried that her Dad had done something wrong.

Although there were many questions appearing in Ann’s mind, but she did not ask her father anything directly because she did not know how to strike up a conversation about this topic with him. If her father had really done something wrong, what should she do?

The next day, things got worse. There was a report about a killing in the park. A police spokesman said that they guessed the victim was killed by a knife, however it was missing.

Needless to say, Ann was so scared by this news.

The head of the investigation of this case was called Calum, who was Ann’s boyfriend. He soon found out the knife belonged to Ann’s father. Although her father was a suspect in his investigation, Calum did his best to help him clear his name. Of course, Ann was afraid of her father being caught. Many clues seemed to point towards him being the murderer.

Ann helped her father escape arrest and asked him to go away for some time.

While he was lying low, Ann tried to find out anything that could prove her father’s

innocence. Ann knew it was very dangerous to get involved, but it was the only way to prove her father was innocent. Calum warned her not to get involved in the investigation because it was too dangerous. He was worried that the murderer might hurt her next time.

However she ignored his advice.

In the end Calum finally caught the real murderer who turned out to be the victim’s wife, not Ann’s father. Ann’s father helped Calum. In fact he didn’t really go away, he had been staying with Calum and helping him to find the real killer.

In this story, I really like the two main characters, Calum and Ann’s father, Hamish Kelty.

Calum was a detective who ran a very well organised investigation. He always thought of others rather than himself. Even though it was very risky for Ann to investigate the case by herself, she insisted on helping. Although, Calum had given her some advice, she did not follow it. Calum protected his girlfriend and all the people who were under investigation.

He did not believe the stories that were reported in the newspaper, he only believed in what he found out.

I think Ann’s father, Hamish Kelty was brave enough. Most people thought he was the killer but his daughter helped him to escape arrest. He pretended to move away as his daughter worried about him being caught. Actually, he went to Calum and helped him to find out the real murderer. Even though he was innocent, he had to be careful. He was lucky that Calum helped him to prove his innocence.. He knew the right thing to do and followed his instincts.

We should try to be more like the characters in the story. It is important to face up to difficulties rather than avoiding them. Remember, you can run but you can’t hide!
