Chapter 2 - Feudalism Extension Activity Consider the advantages and disadvantages of the feudal system. List any positive and negative aspects of feudalism for each of the four groups listed in the table on page 14 of the Interactive Student Notebook. Make sure you consider and include the reasons feudalism developed initially and the needs it fulfilled. You may choose to complete this using computers (PowerPoint, iMovie, etc.), or you may choose to use paper/pencil. You might show your thinking via words, graphics, or a combination of the two. Be sure that your project shows your understanding of the following questions: How did feudalism work? What social classes existed within the feudal system? What were the defining characteristics of each class? How did monarchs justify and maintain their power? What were the differences in the daily lives and responsibilities of the lords and ladies, knights, and peasants? Use your textbook as your primary source. This activity will take the place of the assignments, homework, and tests assigned in class. On day three, you will be expected to turn in a written proposal explaining the type of project you have decided to complete. This proposal will be a homework grade. You will have class time to work on the computers and your project. You will be given a classwork grade based on how well you use this time. If others in your class are also completing the extension activity, you may work together. However, you will all complete your own projects. Your final project’s grade will be worth the same amount as a regular class test. **You, with your parent’s permission, may choose to opt out of this assignment and complete the work assigned to the class as a whole. If this is the case, you will be expected to complete all classwork, homework, and tests. You must turn in this paper with your parent’s signature if you choose to complete the standard classwork rather than this extension project. ___________________________________________________ I have chosen not to complete the extension activity. Instead, I will complete the standard classwork, homework, and test.
