At-a-Glance RHES Emergency Plan 2013-2014 The Emergency Plan provides basic guideline procedures to be followed in the event of an emergency. A crisis is defined as any emergency situation, which severely impacts the normal operation of the school. A crisis can be initiated as the result of a threat/action such as a bomb threat, hostage/barricade, accident etc., or a natural disaster. In any such situation, administration and staff must be prepared to ensure the safety and care of the students, staff, and visitors. The Emergency Response Team consists of the Principal, both Assistant Principals, designated Lead Teachers, and designated office staff. In the event of an emergency, the following locations will be used: Primary Site STUDENT RELEASE PROCEDURES DURING EMERGENCY Students may be released only to a parent, legal guardian, or registered daycare provider. Parent/guardian must sign a release form or roster for each student and bring a picture ID. EMERGENCY PROCEDURES – SPECIFIC INCIDENTS In the event of an emergency situation, the principal’s designee will immediately call 911 to initiate appropriate public safety response and will remain on the line. The following guidelines/procedures will be initiated, as required: “Lock-Down” PROCEDURE A “Lock-Down” indicates an emergency, which requires that all areas of the building be secured. 1. All staff will stay in classrooms or get to classrooms as quickly as possible, directing students into the closest classroom. Staff will take roll. 2. All windows are covered, classroom doors are locked and building services will lock all exterior doors. 3. Teacher will instruct students to remain quiet, and take cover away from windows and doors. 4. All staff will await further instructions.
