Course description

7. Educational objective: (max. 300 characters)
Recognition of water quality factors, water-pollutants, processes of contamination, and selfpurification processes of waters. Understand about methods and functions of water quality
protection. Recognition of the sorts and effects of water-contaminants, acquire knowledge
about the regulation and technologies of water quality protection.
8. Personnel background: The lecturer has theoretical and practical knowledge in water
quality protection speciality.
9. Course content: (for 14 weeks)
1. week
The water management, and stock of water management. Water uses, water regime and water
resources of Hungary.
2. week
Forms of water. Basic of hydrology.
3. week
The types of surface waters and ground waters.
4. week
The sense organic, physical, chemical, biological and bacterial characterisation of water.

The principles of qualification of surface waters, quality classes. The accepted qualification
methods in Hungary and EU.

Characterisation of water contamination and water pollutants.
7. week
Effects of water contamination for planctonic, vegetal and animal organisms.
8. week
The effects of contaminations of drinking water.
9. week
The processes of streamflow contamination, dispersion of pollutants, self -purification of
rivers.
10. week
The contamination of still waters. The eutrophication, the input, output methods of regulation
of eutrophication.
11. week
Anthropogenic water contamination. Averages, the oil contamination and its effects.
12. week
The contamination of ground waters, pollutant resources, the spread of contaminations.
Groundwater-protection.
13. week
Methods and equipment of water quality. Legal provisions, economic and technologic
methods.
14. week
Sewage purification methods, mechanical, biological treatment, other methods. The inland
objects of water quality regulation and management.
