New - RVUs for Diabetes Educators The 2011 final rates for the physician fee schedule were published in the Federal Register on Monday, November 29, 2010: http://edocket.access.gpo.gov/2010/pdf/201027969.pdf We are happy to report that for the first time ever, physician work RVUs (relative value units) have been assigned to diabetes self management HCPCS codes G0108 and G0109 (starting on page 73293). Stakeholders such as the AACE, AADE and JDRF requested that physician work RVUs be included when valuing DSMT services in the manner that work RVUs have been used to value MNT (medical nutrition therapy codes 97802, 97803 and 97804). This means that reimbursements for DSMT should reflect a prospective increase and importantly allow for productivity modeling in the same manner as applies to physicians. Minor Revision to Clinical Guideline for Pharmacological Management of Type 2 The FDA regulatory action related to use of Rosiglitazone was added to the Joslin pharmacological guideline on page 8. No other changes were necessary. Please print the revised guideline and replace the one in your Joslin Affiliates Policy and Procedure Manual, CG-02. Professional Education Department Seeking Help Joslin’s Professional Education Department would like to involve our Affiliate partners in two upcoming projects related to elder care and glycemic/cardiometabolic goals. Check it Out The Spanish version of HealthSeeker is now available. http://diabetesnewshound.com/type2/facebook-game/ Type 1 Patient Education Pathway Boston recommends scheduling individual appointments for new Type 1 patients with the physician, nurse and dietitian on the same day. For newly diagnosed be sure to have an educator follow up by phone within 24-48 hours. Try to schedule nurse and dietitian appointments 1 week later. Then think about appropriate classes for follow up. Joslin Diabetes Center Affiliated Programs One Joslin Place Boston, Massachusetts 02215 Telephone 617.226.5858 Fax 617.226.5859 Page 1
