UNISON PRAYER OF INVOCATION
Loving God, we are grateful for this time set aside to
worship you, to feel anew your Spirit in our hearts, and to be
strengthened for the journey of each day. As we sing and
pray and reflect on your word, remind us that we are each
made in your image, and that you need us to love each other
and to love the earth as you do. Assure us that you are
always near, that your mercy is greater than anything we
can imagine, and that you desire healing and wholeness for
our lives. And guide us to greater faith, more committed
discipleship, and deeper care for your world. We pray
through Jesus who beckons us to follow him. Amen.

BENEDICTION
POSTLUDE
How Brightly Shines The Morning Star
(Wie schön leuchtet der Morgerstern)
Dietrich Buxtehude
We welcome all our guests this morning and ask you to sign the guest
book in the lower narthex. If you would like to give us more information
about yourself or if you would like further information about the church
we invite you to fill out the card in the pew rack and place it in the
offering plate. The pastor and liturgist will greet you in the vestry after
the service.
We welcome The Rev. Dr. William McKinney to the pulpit this morning.
Dr. McKinney served for 14 years as President and Professor of American
Religion at Pacific School of Religion in Berkeley, CA. He was named
PSR’s President Emeritus in 2010 and remains active as a teacher, writer
and consultant whose work focuses on helping faith communities play an
active role in public life. A sociologist of American religion (PhD, Penn
State University) and an ordained minister in the United Church of Christ,
he is also a senior consultant with the Center for Progressive Renewal and
an adjunct professor at Hartford Seminary. Bill and Linda McKinney are
now year-round residents of Craigville, Massachusetts and members of
North Congregational UCC in Middleborough.
We’re enjoying Richard Busch’s time with us at the organ this summer.
Composing is among Richard’s many talents. His music has been
performed by the Indianapolis Symphony, St. Paul Chamber Orchestra,
Boston’s Collage, the Meridian Quartet, I Cantori di New York, and many
community choruses and church choirs, including that of the Church of
the Ascension in New York City.
The flowers in the Sanctuary today are given by John Cowling in memory
of Thomas Brooks Woods, whose memorial service will be held in our
Sanctuary this coming Wednesday at 2:00 pm.
The arrangement on the Landing is given by Carol Sylver in remembrance
of Earl Sylver’s 100th birthday. “I Hope You Dance.”
No matter who you are or where you are on life’s journey, you are
welcome here.

hope others will also take one per family, writing your name on the last
page of the check off sheet so we can be sure everyone in the church
receives a directory. Many thanks for your patience throughout this
process.
