The Federated Church of Orleans United Church of Christ and Unitarian Universalist Association 162 Main Street P.O. Box 761 East Orleans, MA 02643 March 29, 2015 10:00 A.M PALM SUNDAY "The important question to ask is not, 'What do you believe?' but 'What difference does it make that you believe?' Does the world come nearer to the dream of God because of what you believe?" Verna J. Dozier, 20th century "The Christian faith has not been tried and found wanting. It has been found difficult, and left untried." G.K. Chesterton, 20th century As we enter the sanctuary to praise God and the prelude begins, please observe a respectful silence for the sake of those who use this time for prayer and meditation. ORGAN PRELUDE March from The Third Organ Symphony OPENING WORDS OF WELCOME *HYMN 192 *CALL TO WORSHIP Widor The Rev. Sally E. Norris All Glory, Laud, and Honor tune: St. Theodulph Carrie DiProspero, liturgist One: Hosanna! Blessed is the One who comes in the name of the Lord! All: Hosanna! Blessed is the One who comes in the name of the Lord! One: Who is this One who comes? All: It is Jesus, who teaches us to do justice, to love kindness, and to walk humbly with God. One: Hosanna! May God come to you today with renewed faith, hope and love. All: Hosanna! Let us worship God! UNISON PRAYER OF INVOCATION We praise you, God, for this good news: Jesus of Nazareth has come to Jerusalem today! Great crowds have gathered to welcome him, laying their coats and palm branches along his path. He has come into town humbly riding on the back of a young colt. Some say he is the King who comes in the name of the Lord. He looks like one of us, but there is something special about him. Just about everyone is praising his name. If only we could understand everything he has taught us. Maybe we will understand later someday. O God, have we really paid attention to the words he spoke; to the parables he told; to the ways he healed; to his compassion for the outcast and broken; to his weeping over the city of Jerusalem; to his illumination of your love. Help us, O God, to listen to Jesus’ invitation that we all become children of light, love, and peace. Amen.
