THANKS
There is a thank you card on the Notice Board from Margaret and Alistair.
It says “Dear Friends, What a wonderful send-off you gave us on Sunday. As you will have gathered, it was a very emotional
farewell for us. The flowers are lovely and the picture will always remind us of the very happy 23 years we spent in Barrow upon
Soar. The lunch on Sunday was the best ever. Thank you so much to the chefs and to you all for your company and good
wishes. With our love and every blessing, Margaret and Alistair”
MUSIC IN WORSHIP
During the next few weeks it may be difficult to find someone to play either the piano or the organ to accompany our singing.
However we have been fortunate in being loaned a set of cds to accompany singing by our friends at Wysall which they used for
worship. Today we shall use these accompaniments for some of our singing in our services – so be ready for something
different! Adrian
SOUND SYSTEM
The situation is getting rather desperate for people to operate the sound system at services. Several of the regulars are no
longer able to assist and we need some new people. I have a arranged a session on Tuesday, 27th October at 4.00 pm for
anyone who is interested to have a look at the system and to see how to use it. Also we will have a look at how to play cds to
accompany singing which may be necessary during the coming weeks.
If you are interested but cannot attend on Tuesday please let me know. All present operators are encouraged to attend. Thank
you. Adrian
HAPPY HOUR
Sadly, again I had to cancel Wednesday’s meeting, as no-one was definitely able to attend. I now feel that we are too small a
group to continue and therefore the two meetings planned for the rest of this year will also be cancelled. I do not think that it is
fair to ask people to prepare a talk and give up their time to speak to what may result in only one or two members, which is the
potential for the coming week and beyond.
I am sorry that this situation has arisen, particularly as many of you have been “Happy Hourers” (if I can say that) for far longer
than I have been involved. I took over from Joan Crompton two and a half years ago and promised that I would keep the
meeting going as long as it was viable. It seems that the time has come to admit that it is not and that, as they say, all good
things must end.
Although we shall no longer be meeting as a group I know we will still see each other and I pray that the Lord will continue to
bless us as we share worship and fellowship in other ways - Sue Speight
CHRISTMAS FAYRE & SANTA'S GROTTO - Saturday 21st November 11.00 am – 2.00 pm
The time is fast approaching so could you put this date in your diary please. The format of the Fayre will be much as it was last
year. Mike and Yvonne will be approaching you in the next few weeks to ask you to help with specific aspects of the Christmas
Fayre. We hope you will all be able to help - Thanks Mike
CAN YOU HELP?
We are on the popular CHOCOLATE STALL at the Christmas Fayre and would be grateful for donations of sweets and chocolate.
The more we get the better it looks! If you can help could you have a word with me please but if you would like to make a
monetary donation instead it would be greatly received. Thanks in advance – Janet and Carolyn
We are on the also popular BOTTLE STALL and would welcome donations of bottles please ie shampoo, conditioner, body lotion,
all kinds of sauces, fruit squash, cordials, shower gel, lemonade, Vimto, anything in a bottle but not alcoholic – Thanks a lot - Pat
and Jim
YOU MIGHT LIKE TO KNOW
I thought you might like to hear what one of our very regular Minimarket customers has been up to lately! Seven year old Abby
Brown, daughter of Gemma (nee Burton) and Gaz (and a very good recorder player!!!) has been helping to collect money at Hall
Orchard and raised £25 by selling loom bands and saving her pocket money in order that Mr Dipple can buy some treats for the
children when he goes on one of his regular visits to Gondar in Ethiopia. Abbie has been begging her mum to let her have her
hair cut for months – on Thursday Gemma gave in and Abby had her bum length hair cut in order to send it to the Princess Trust
to be made into wigs for children who lose their hair through illness. She has now asked her mum and dad if she can sponsor a
child and they have said they will go halves with her!
Love the new hairstyle, Abby and it is a really kind and lovely thing to do!
