SEVENTH SUNDAY AFTER PENTECOST
I have great faith in a seed. Convince me that you have a seed there,
and I am prepared to expect wonders.
Henry David Thoreau, 19th century
Some people, in order to discover God, read books. But there is a great
book, the very appearance of created things. Look above you! Look
below you! Note it. Read it. God, whom you want to discover, never
wrote that book with ink. Instead God set before your eyes the things
that God had made. Can you ask for a louder voice than that?
Augustine of Hippo, 5th century
As we enter the sanctuary to praise God and the prelude begins, please
observe arespectful silence for the sake of those who use this time for
prayer and meditation.

One: Dear Friends in Christ, God is rejoicing that you are here for
worship, to be fed, to be strengthened, to be renewed!
All: Breath of God, Spirit of Life, fill me with all that I need
this day!
One: Dear Friends in Christ, God is rejoicing that you are here for
worship, to receive a healing balm, to ignite your passion for
justice!
All: Breath of God, Spirit of Life, fill me with all that I need
this day!
UNISON PRAYER OF INVOCATION
O God whose love is greater than our imagining, as we
sing and pray, as we hear the beauty and power of your Word,
remind us that you are forever near, forever at our side. Scripture
tells us that nothing can ever separate us from your love. And yet
in our daily living we often forget this truth. In the workings of
Christ’s Church we often keep your transforming love at a
distance.
And in your world, your people have allowed violence and
injustice to run freely. More than ever, blessed God, may we trust
and believe that you are seeking us – in our lives, in the Church,
and in the world -- just as we seek to be embraced by your love.
In Christ’s name we pray. Amen.

to gather in worship, to listen to each other, to share in the joy
