History Brochure Planning Guide

Complete all the parts and have it checked. Use correct spelling, capitalization, and
punctuation! This will be your guide to creating your brochure.
1. Choose the topic of interest you plan to expand on and tell what in particular you are going to
research.
Topics:
1. Crusades/Jihad (compare and contrast... link to ME problems today or other times in history)
2. Muslim Advances in the Middle Ages (How they were discovered and how they are used today)
3. Life in Feudal Towns (Compare and Contrast to towns/cities today/Guatemala)
4. Islam/Christianity/Judaism (compare and contrast)
5. Decline of Feudalism (Comparing the events of the Hundred Years War/Bubonic Plague etc – could be
compared to current events as well)
2. Come up with your controlling idea and main areas. Tell what you are going to find out, compare
it to, or learn new.
Brochure Cover Statement (what you are going to talk about, compare/contrast, or prove to
the reader, what will be your focus; think of this as your topic/thesis statement)

Brochure Format: (see rubric)
It should include –
1. Front cover design and topic/thesis statement
2. Three inside panels and one back panel – each with an area of interest with good
information/background and 1-2 illustration/picture for each area – include at least 1 intext
citation in each panel
3. Center back panel – reflection and your conclusions
4. Attach a correctly formatted works cited/bibliography page
5. Final brochure will be a social studies grade. Writing sections and works cited will be an LA
grade. Outline and research will be an ELE grade.
Bibliography / Works Cited References (match the source name to your outline) Have all the
information written down that you need. See handout from Mrs. Castellanos for format.

In general, you need the author or editor, title of book, article or website, pages used, dated
published or updated, publisher or sponsor, where published, volume # if applicable. MLA
formatted does not require the URL.
