SUMMARY
Provide quality and prompt nursing care to residents; implement specific procedures and programs; coordinate work within the department, as well as with other departments; report pertinent information to the immediate supervisor; respond to inquiries or requests for information; assist the immediate supervisor with tasks to support department operations.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Interpersonal Relationships
Displays an attitude of courtesy and respect for all residents, families and staff.
Functions as a team member with other staff in the performance of duties.
Exhibits sound, mature judgment.
Must be aware of and adhere to all HIPAA regulations.
Resident Care Tasks
Assist residents with their activities of daily living.
Assists with mobility and transportation care.
Answers call lights promptly.
Utilizes resident transfer and safety equipment.
Provides postmortem care as directed.
Completes work on a timely basis.
Promotes and maintains highest level of independence of resident utilizing nursing rehab skills.
Documentation Tasks
Receives oral report from nurses on all assigned residents utilizing the unit assignment sheet.
Reports changes in resident’s condition to RN/LPN in a timely manner.
Attends care conferences as directed.
Maintains accurate and complete records of food/fluid intake/output, baths, weights, bowel and bladder elimination, ambulation, ROM, and cleaning duties as assigned.
Housekeeping Tasks
Cleans resident utensils, room and maintains orderly unit.
Ensures that equipment is clean and functional.
Safety Compliance Tasks
Accepts and follows through with all policies and procedures.
Identifies and corrects hazards and unsafe acts and reports all quality issues.
Additional Tasks
Participates in required in-service training sessions and facility committees as directed.
Adheres to organizational policies on infection control, safety and resident rights.
Maintains prompt and regular attendance.
Performs other tasks as directed.
WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Ability to sit, stand, bend and stoop for long periods of time.
Ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force regularly.
Ability to work in a stressful environment.
Ability to respond to emergency/crisis situations.
Exposure to noise. Exposure to blood and/or body fluids.

SUCCESS FACTORS (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES)
Current theory base in medical, geriatric and psychiatric nursing.
Current knowledge of state and federal nursing home regulations.
Computer skills, including e-mail, word processing and related facility software.
Ability to prepare clear, concise reports.
Knowledge of needs of resident populations and treatment sources.
Ability to direct the work of others as requested.
Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
Ability to read, analyze and interpret practice standards, professional journals, technical procedures and government standards and regulations.
Ability to solve problems and deal with a variety of issues.
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, employees, residents, families, professionals and the general public.
Ability to work well as a team leader and member.
Skill in reviewing clinical work of others according to professional standards and practice guidelines.
EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or GED attained or in progress
Familiarity with custodial tools, supplies, chemicals, and equipment
Ability to follow instructions. Ability to work independently within established procedures
Ability to relate favorably with residents and staff
Experience as an NAR in long-term care preferred.
English oral and written communication skills
Must be eligible to work in the Federal Health Program
