Williams, Financial Analyst SBHS SUBJECT: New Psychological Services Procedure Codes, Effective January 1, 2006 Effective December 31st, 2005, The American Medical Association (AMA) provided notification deleting the following psychological services code: 96100 - Psychological testing (includes psycho-diagnostic assessment of personality, psychopathology, emotionality, intellectual abilities, e.g., WAIS-R, Rorschach, MMPI) with interpretation and report, per hour Effective January 1, 2006, the AMA provided the following new psychological services procedure codes: 96101 - Psychological testing (includes psychodiagnostic assessment of emotionality, intellectual abilities, personality and psychopathology, eg: MMPI, Rorshach, WAIS), per hour of the psychologist's or physician's time, both face-to-face time with the patient and time interpreting test results and preparing the report. 96102 - Psychological testing (includes psychodiagnostic assessment of emotionality, intellectual abilities, personality and psychopathology, eg: MMPI and WAIS), with qualified health care professional interpretation and report, administered by technician, per hour of technician time, face-to-face. 96103 - Psychological testing (includes psychodiagnostic assessment of emotionality, intellectual abilities, personality and psychopathology, eg: MMPI), administered by a computer, with qualified health care professional interpretation and report. The physician or psychologist administers and interprets the results of psychological testing. The testing in written, oral, computer, or combined formats measures personality, emotions, intellectual functioning, and 1 psychopathology. This code applies to each hour of testing and includes both face-to-face time and interpretation and preparation of the report. In 96102, a technician administers the test, which is interpreted and a report prepared by a qualified health care professional. In 96103, the test is administered by computer, which is interpreted and a report prepared by a qualified health care professional. 96116 - Neurobehavioral status exam (clinical assessment of thinking, reasoning and judgment, eg: acquired knowledge, attention, language, memory, planning and problem solving, and visual spatial abilities), per hour of the psychologist's or physician's time, both face-to-face time with the patient and time interpreting test results and preparing the report. The physician or psychologist evaluates aspects of thinking, reasoning, and judgment to evaluate a patient's neurocognitive abilities. This code applies to each hour of examination time and includes both face-to-face time with the patient and time spent interpreting test results and preparing a report. 96118 - Neuropsychological testing (eg: Halstead-Reitan Neurophychological battery, Wechsler memory scales and Wisconsin Care sorting test, psychologist time.) 96119 - Neuropsychological testing (eg: Halstead-Reitan Neurophychological battery, Wechsler memory scales and Wisconsin Care sorting test administered by technician.) 96120 - Neuropsychological testing (eg: Halstead-Reitan Neurophychological battery, Wechsler memory scales and Wisconsin Care sorting test administered by computer.)
