Cultural reference behind an expression: the book Catch-22 by Joseph Heller,
published in 1961, about “mobile army surgical hospitals” during the Korean War. It
was made into a film in 1970: “The staff of a Korean War field hospital use humor
and hijinks to keep their sanity in the face of the horror of war.” And was seen as a
critic of the Vietnam war. It was also adapted for a television series, which ran for
YEARS and was extremely popular.
