Annotated Bibliography
Lorrie Palmer. "Black Man/White Machine: Will Smith Crosses Over." The Velvet
Light Trap 67 (2011): 28-40. Project MUSE. Web. 13 Apr. 2013.
This scholarly article focuses on Will Smith and how, being an African American male, he is
portrayed on the big screen.
I love this article because it brings in many films that Will Smith has been a part of, focusing on
the media.
Gray, Carl. "Life, Your Career, and the Pursuit of Happiness." BMJ. BMJ Publishing
Group Ltd., 25 Oct. 1997. Web. 14 Apr. 2013.
This scholarly article focuses on how the pursuit of happiness is not something easily obtained.
This article is interesting to me because it has different sub categories such as self-diagnosis and
types of happiness projects.

This article exemplifies the globalization of social media.
It has interesting examples.

Catherine Jurca
Cinema Journal , Vol. 37, No. 4 (Summer, 1998), pp. 19-36
This scholarly article involves how everyone in the media was made in Hollywood and that
dreams are possible.
Numerous examples are presented with different types of media.

Cindy Hing-Yuk Wong and Gary W. McDonogh
American Anthropologist , New Series, Vol. 103, No. 1 (Mar., 2001), pp. 96-111
This article exemplifies mass communication.
My favorite thing about this article is it is recent and for the 20th century, it is very credible.
Winward, Kent. "A Reflection on The Pursuit of Happyness: What Are We
Pursuing?"Blogcritics Culture. Technorati, Inc., 18 Jan. 2007. Web. 14 Apr. 2013.
This article is a scholarly article where Will Smith the main character of The Pursuit of Happyess
is discussed. Arguments include, what happiness truly is with examples from the movie overall.
One of the most interesting things about this article was Winward expressing, “MONEY =
HAPPINESS,” which was his point of the view of the movie, The Pursuit of Happyness.
Winward has an interesting point of view and even has statistics in this article. Overall, he takes
a blunt stance on how he feels about happiness.
Hatch, David. "The CQ Researcher Online." Media Ownership. CQ Researcher, 10 Oct.
2003. Web. 14 Apr. 2013.
This scholarly article takes a stance on media and just how influencing it can be to the public.
Charts, statistics and numerous television programs are the focus.
I love the fact that this article has a chart that has different methods of media on it and that not
just one type of media is discussed. Also, one of the main focuses is how the media can shield
society from certain topics.
Levy, Emanuel. “The American Dream of Family in Film: From Decline to a Comeback.”
Journal of Comparative Family Studies 22.2 (1991): 187-204. Academic Search Complete. Web.
14 Apr. 2013.
This journal by Levy focuses on families and how there are different types that are portrayed in
the media and in films. Peer reviewed.
I like that this is a comparative article with families. It is interesting because in both Far and
Away and The Pursuit of Happness there are different types of families presented – this can
prove useful towards my paper.
