Journalists in Juba have declared three days of mourning, following the demise of Peter Moi
Julius, who worked for the corporate business newspaper in Juba.
The bullet riddled body of Peter Moi was discovered on Thursday close to his home in in
Jebel, a suburb of Juba.
Members of the union of Journalists of South Sudan met this morning and resolved to put
down their pens, paper, and cameras for three days.
Edward Ladu Terriso, is the Secretary General of the Union of Journalists of South Sudan,
He said no newspapers will be on display this Saturday.

“so this blackout will be one day as a message to the authority that a crime is being happening, it should be
prevented, investigated and even victims compensated, this is the message this is the objective, we are not a
political party, we are media people.”
Terriso also asked government to ensure protection of journalists in South Sudan.

“Any crime against journalist is a crime against freedom of freedom of expression and it is a crime against the
people and it is a punishment against the people and it is a punishment to the people. The death of Peter Moi and
the death of other journalists has been a crime against the people a punishment.

Juba International Airport will be closed to weekend traffic starting tomorrow August 22nd
through April 30th 2016.
The closure of the airport is intended to facilitate the rehabilitation of the airport’s
runways.
The Undersecretary at the Ministry of Transport Roads and Bridges, Captain David Martin
Hassan, says flight operators and passenger have been advised to reschedule their flights.
Captain David says plans have been put in place to facilitate emergency flights and
evacuations.

“There are plans for extreme emergencies if it is really needed, but otherwise those operators have
been informed about the nature and the need of this, because Juba airport has been suffering for a long
time, it has to be closed for two days at least so that the work is expedited and it should be right so by
next year we should have a good airport.”
Rehabilitation of Juba International airport is being carried out by China Harbor Engineering
Company. The work will involve rehabilitation of the taxiways, expansion of the cargo
apron, establishment of passenger and service roads and the installation of the airfield
lighting system and air traffic control navigation system.

Internally Displaced Persons or IDPS sheltering at the UN Protection of civilian site in Unity
state are asking President Salva kiir to sign the peace agreement.
Addressing a news conference in Bentiu, Community Elder Samuel Reath Koch, said the
People of South Sudan are desperate for peace so they can to return to their normal lives.

“Therefore we urge the president of the Republic of South Sudan to take courage and sign the document to end
the suffering of the people of South Sudan , allow the people maintain harmony among the people of south Sudan
who have so voracious appetite for peace, promote their unity to resume normal life in the country, encourage
exchange of visits of people to their friends in different states of the country ,let children resume their schools
normally, let them enjoy the resources of their country and a sustainable development be achieved. So we urge
the government of south Sudan to sign the document within the given fifteen days as requested”
Last week, the IDPs in Bentiu held a peaceful demonstration and called on President Kiir
and Opposition Leader Dr. Riek to finalize a peace deal. The Bentiu protection site is
sheltering 121 thousand people.

Police in Northern Northern Bahr el Ghazal have welcomed the appointment of the former
police commissioner Major General, Akot Deng Akot as the Caretaker Governor of the
state.
The state’s acting Police Commissioner, Philip Madut Tong, said they are confident the new
caretaker government will ensure peace and stability.

A new deal has been struck to promote inter-state cooperation between Lakes and Warrap
states.
Leaders attending a two day meeting in Romich, Tonj East County approved a set of
agreements, designed to control insecurity and boost cooperation between Lakes and
Warrap state.
Tonj East County Commissioner, Madhol Chol Thuc, says participants agreed to improve
cooperation between pastoralists, provide compensations for killings, allow free movement
of pastoralists and impose penalties for those involved in cattle raiding.

The Catholic Diocese of Tombura and Yambio in Western Euquatoria is appealing to the
government to release news on the condition and assume responsibility for the life and
wellbeing of former state governor Joseph Bangasi Bakosoro.
The diocese released a statement saying Bakosoro was sick at the time of his alleged
detention on Monday and needs medical attention.
The statement signed by Bishop Eduardo Hiiboro Kussala says the former governor should
be accorded his right to speak freely before a court of law.
The appeal comes five days after Bakosoro was reportedly arrested at his home in Juba.
Bishop Hiiboro is calling on the people of Western Equatoria to remain calm and up hold
the rule of law.

A new solar powered water system has been launched in Malith village in Rumbek East
county, Lakes state. The water system was donated to the community by the UN Mission in
South Sudan.
Yom Marik, a member of the Lakes state water management committee, says the solar
powered water system is expected to produce 5 thousand liters of water per day.
Lakes State Director of Water, Barnaba Makuac Magol says constant water supplies in
Malith village will help stem the water related disputes that have been common in the area

constructed here and the capacity of the Tank is five thousand liters , this project it will serves community , in dry

Elsewhere; The Government of Russia says it needs more time to study a draft UN
resolution on imposing an arms embargo and sanctions on South Sudan if President Salva
Kiir refuses to sign a peace deal.
The United States presented the draft resolution to the Security Council late Wednesday,
hoping to schedule a quick vote, possibly as early as today Friday.
The draft text would impose an arms embargo and targeted sanctions on individuals
deemed responsible for the failure of the latest effort to end the 20-month war that has
killed tens of thousands of people and displaced 2.1 million.
But Russia's Deputy Ambassador Petr Iliichev said the draft was complex and needed time
to think about it.
