An anti-malarial campaign is underway at the UN protection of civilian site in
Bentiu, Unity State.
The campaign launched two weeks ago is being conducted by MSF.
The medical charity group is targeting more than one hundred and eleven
thousand people sheltering at the site.
Since the start of the campaign MSF has treated over 16,000 children.
Vanessa Cramond from MSF says the clinic at the PoC site was registering an
average of 3 child deaths per day from preventable diseases, especially malaria.

“The situation in the PoCs with so many people and so many mosquitos of course allows a lot transmission of the
malaria infection. We were seeing upwards of 3 children die every day at the MSF hospital in the PoC which is a
difficult and tragic circumstance for so many families. So it was very serious, the symptoms of severe malaria
being convulsions and high fever, severe anemia and low blood sugars that lead to coma”

Elsewhere, the general who led a coup in Burkina Faso last week insists on
remaining in power until polls are held.
According to media reports, Gen Gilbert Diendere made the proposal at talks
brokered by West African mediators in the capital Ouagadougou.
On Saturday one of the mediators had spoken of a breakthrough and hinted at a
new transition government reinstating interim President Michel Kafando.
At least 10 people have been killed in clashes since Thursday's coup.
The overthrow of the civilian interim government - carried out by the
presidential guard - was widely condemned. Burkina Faso has been suspended
