School Bus Driver / Trainer
Position Functions:
Assesses incidents, complaints, accidents and/or potential emergency situations for the
purpose of resolving or recommending a resolution to the situation, providing
employee post accident retraining and/or ride alongs when needed.
Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the
completion of their work activities.
Carries out quality control checks by randomly inspecting drivers compliance with bus
or vehicle maintance inspections (e.g. performing vandalism checks, cleaning
floors/windows/seats) for the purpose of ensuring safety, appearance, and sanitation of
vehicle.
Collects, reviews, and records CDL requirements by state and federal laws (e.g. pretrip, post trip, midday security, security, student checks, log books, etc.) for the
purpose of analyzing training needs and meeting state requirements.
Communicates with parents, students, teachers, administrators, other drivers,
dispatcher, etc. for the purpose of conveying and/or receiving information, which may
include observations / maintaining safety at a designated bus stop/bus bay location.
Completes physical performance examinations and reports results to authorities for the
purpose of testing drivers so they may receive their class B drivers license.
Conducts bus evacuations, training, drills, and mirror training for the purpose of
providing quality control for the Transportation department relating to safety, traffic,
student, or community concerns.
Conducts commercial drivers license training; tests and reports new driver and
biannual examinations of all commercial drivers license class B licenses for the
purpose of meeting the rules and regulations from the Arizona Department of Public
Safety, Student Transportation and Motor Vehicle Division, Drivers License
Examination Program in conducting 3rd party examinations for commercial drivers
license class B licenses.
Conducts in-services, refresher training, remedial training, behind the wheel and
classroom training for certified Bus Drivers and Bus Monitors for the purpose of
meeting Transportation department, State of Arizona and Federal Government
requirements.
Covers routes and assists students and other passengers (e.g. seating, restraints, special
equipment, lifts, etc.) for the purpose of providing proper positioning and/or safe
loading and unloading from buses including both emergency situations (including bus

evacuations) and normal transport.
Demonstrates, displays, tests, and trains Bus Monitors on all special needs restraints
(e.g. harness, car seat, seat belts, wheel chairs, strollers, or any type of
restraint/equipment which is requested by a student’s individual evaluation plan) for
the purpose of providing proper positioning and safe loading and unloading from
buses.
Drives schools' buses for the purpose of covering a route when needed; transporting
regular education and/or special education students over scheduled routes and to/from
school and/or field trips in a safe and timely manner.

Gathers data and prepares reports and documentation (e.g. daily mileage, condition
reports, incident/accident reports, inspections, disciplinary, and positive behavior
reports, etc. ) for the purpose of providing written support and conveying information.
Maintains, tracks, tests, and reports all biannual examinations for commercial and class
B licenses for the purpose of meeting department, state, and federal regulations.
Performs first-aid as necessary for the purpose of meeting the immediate health needs
of passengers.
Performs road watch functions by using established Transportation software systems
for the purpose of verifying speeds, safe driving, bus stop locations and other quality
control checks.
Recommends route adjustments for the purpose of providing accurate and time
efficient bus routes.
