DISCUSSION
1.
During March 2008, when the CBS President decided to postpone CBS-XIV from
November 2008 to March 2009, he also agreed to a recommendation from his Management Group
to hold a “reduced” CBS Management Group meeting just prior to the WMO Executive Council to
take advantage of the availability of several MG members who would also attend the Executive
Council and thus economize on costs. Additionally, other members of the MG have decided to not
attend. The purpose of the “reduced” MG meeting was to discuss preparations for the next CBS
session, including a Technical Conference on the WMO Integrated Global Observing Systems
(WIGOS) as well as alignment of CBS activities within the new WMO Strategic Plan 2008-2011
and Beyond.

It was also agreed to hold a second Management Group meeting approximately six
months before CBS-XIV as has been done in the past.

It should be noted that within the Zero Nominal Growth Budget approved by the
fifteenth WMO Congress, there is provision for only 1 CBS Management Group meeting in 2008
containing a total of only 30 K CHF.

With the realization of some economies, the cost for CBS MG-8 is approximately 20K.
Thus, available funding for CBS MG-9 will be slightly below the level for MG-8(RED), i.e. 10K.
Therefore, CBS Management Group members should agree on a strategy to utilize the remaining
funds. Additional funding is not available.
