Surrealist artist
Born 1963 in Essex UK moved to Australia as a child.
Aged 18, attended SA School of Art, Adelaide University.
Aged 21, started own business Baines Graphics.
Aged 34, gave up commercial art to become a full-time artist.
A full-time artist since 1997, Andrew Baines exhibits his paintings internationally, in London, Scotland, California, Florida,
Montreal, Portugal, Switzerland, Hong Kong, with several sell-out exhibitions in Australia and Singapore.
In 2010, He was included in a European Encyclopedia of Surrealism, a finalist in over 20 art prizes, including three times in
the Doug Moran National Portrait Prize. His paintings are in The Australian Embassy in Rome Italy, ANZ Bank Singapore
and News LTD. He is currently the only Australian in a European travelling exhibition entitled "International Surrealism Now"
Recently commissioned to paint a label for Wirra Wirra winery's Scrubby Rise label (over one million bottles have been
distributed internationally!)
Andrew has gained considerable international media coverage for his surreal installations/photo shoots, where He puts
suited volunteers, orchestras, live cows, Hills Hoists, politicians etc in the sea at dawn.
Volunteers have included Malcolm Turnbull, Amanda Vanstone, Colin Barnett, Alexander Downer, Natasha Stott Despoja,
Sir Eric & Lady Neal just to name a few...
Most recently he was featured on TV program USA Today for putting a herd of cows in the sea at Geelong!
He has also collaborated with many companies to bring his work to fruition, the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra, The WASO,
Hills Holdings, Wirra Wirra Winery, Anglicare, State Gallery of WA, Holstein Australia, StHildas Girls School Mosman WA,
FMC Foundation etc..
His most famous installation/photo shoot was a guerrilla protest that featured 12 suited people sitting on toilets reading
papers, on the water's edge at Henley, including Amanda Vanstone.
Andrew has recently collaborated with the United Nations organisation of Australia to create two installations. His latest
venture is a foray into short film making with “Escape of the Corporate Battery Hens”.

Since 2005, Andrew has created over a two dozen surreal Installations on Australian beaches via collaborations with Hills
Hoists, The United Nations, The West Australian and Adelaide Symphony orchestras, LWD Company, Holstein Australia
(Dairy Industry) the WA state Gallery, Anglicare, FMC Foundation & Wirra Wirra Vineyards with volunteers including
Malcolm Turnbull, Colin Barnet, Sir James & lady Hardy, Sir Eric & Lady Neal, Amanda Vanstone etc…
