Course Outline
I. Course Description
This course is designed to enable the students to enunciate clearly and audibly for
both speaking and understanding. Due emphasis is to be laid on students’ practical
ability to accurately produce English sounds and utterances in communicative
settings.
II. Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of the course students should be will be able to:
 Recognize and pronounce English sounds in isolation and in connected
speech;
 Describe and transcribe the English speech sounds;
 Be familiar with segmental and suprasegmental features of English;
 Compare and contrast English and Arabic speech sounds.
III: Course Topical Content
 Significance of pronunciation;
 Relationship between speech and pronunciation;
 Speech organs and their functions;
 Place and manner of articulation;
 English sounds and their symbols;
 Stress and Intonation
 Contrastive analysis of some English and Arabic sounds.
