The texts include Latin, and English translations of Latin, and cover selected topics. Achievement Criteria Achievement Achievement with Merit Achievement with Excellence Demonstrate a basic understanding of the passages of text. Demonstrate a detailed understanding of the passages of text in their immediate context. Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of the passages of text in both their immediate context and the wider context of the topic. Explanatory Notes 1 Literary texts refer to Latin texts and English translations of Latin texts found in the topic booklets. (The topic booklets are those formerly used for School Certificate Latin, and are produced by and available from the Canterbury Education Centre.) 2 One topic booklet may be selected from the following: in even years - Theseus and Ariadne, Roman Slavery, Caesar in odd years - Orpheus and Eurydice, Roman Women, Augustus. New Zealand Qualifications Authority 2016 Number AS90116 Version 1 Page 2 of 2 3 In providing evidence for understanding, students’ responses to the passages for comment will be elicited by questions on: understanding of the given passages and any omitted parts the immediate context of the given passages, which refers to the notes and comments of the passages the wider context of the given passages, which refers to the relationship between the passages and the topic as a whole. 4 Definitions Basic means answers are partial or lacking supporting detail. Detailed means answers are complete or supporting detail is given on most occasions. Comprehensive means answers are detailed and include references to the text. 5 The total amount of literature read in Latin will be approximately 100 lines, and the total in English 100 lines. (A formal translation of the given passages will not be included in the assessment tasks.) Quality Assurance 1 Providers and Industry Training Organisations must be accredited by the Qualifications Authority before they can register credits from assessment against achievement standards. 2 Accredited providers and Industry Training Organisations assessing against achievement standards must engage with the moderation system that applies to those achievement standards.
