COURSE SYLLABUS: Basic Auto Maintenance Course #97101 Grades 9-12 Prerequisite: none 1 semester .75 elective credits total Instructors: Barry Lampi barry.lampi@mpls.k12.mn.us A. Course Description: This is an introductory course with an emphasis on safety and safe practices recognized in an automotive shop. The course will cover all of the automotive systems and basic maintenance of the automobile. It will cover the use of the shop equipment, including jacking, lifting, tool usage and identification. Emphasis is on inspection of tires, fluid condition, levels, changing and repairing tires and keeping a maintenance log. B. Standards Addressed: N.A.T.E.F. (National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation) curriculum is utilized. C. Instructional Goals: Students will be able to: Practice shop safety Identify shop tools and equipment Identify the different automotive systems Identify different fluids Perform a safety inspection Access vehicle information using the electronic service information D. Instructional Resources: SP2 online safety All Data ESI Halderman Automotive Technology 4th edition E. Student Assessment: Students will be assessed using a variety of authentic and traditional tools, projects, simulations. All class-work, field trips, speakers etc. and participation will be assigned point values, and grading will be as follows: A= 90% B=80% C=70% D=60% F. Classroom Policies: Attendance is important. Students are expected to be in class every day. 95% or better attendance is expected. The Roosevelt High School attendance policy for attendance will be followed Tardiness is not acceptable, excessive tardiness will be reported to the Discipline Team Students will be required to sign and follow the CTE Computer Use Agreement . Do your own work—copy and paste is plagiarism, and not acceptable. Do your share of the work when participating in group project work, and actively participate in class! Use time wisely, and efficiently Professionally appropriate “soft skills” for the workplace will be expected at all times in the classroom, and be part of the grade E.
