Congratulations to: the cast and crew of the Winter Play, ROMEO AND JULIET, and director, Mr.
McGarvey on a very successful production; the Freshman and Senior Class Councils and their
advisors, Mr. Guindon and Mrs. Richardson, on a very successful Winter Formal attended by over
400 students; the Girls’ Basketball Team and Coach Romine who won their 10th District title in the
last eleven years; to the system-wide Art Department, headed by Mrs. Bennett for another
outstanding “N2Art” Exhibit; to all the Firebird students and staff who donated 204 pints of blood on
March 13; to over 200 juniors and seniors who volunteered for Senior Helping Seniors and Juniors Join
Kettering projects during testing week

Come out to the Fairmont Industries Annual Plant Sale on May 4 – 8 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on the East
Unit front lawn (facing Shroyer Road). Let us help you transform your yard into a tropical paradise
where you can relax and alleviate stress. You will love the spectacular flowers we get from Stockslegers
Greenhouse and Garden Center. Whether you're looking for that splash of color or to attract butterflies
and humming birds, we have what you need. There will be amazing annuals, perennials, stunning
hanging baskets, vegetable plants and herbs. Take advantage of having your own personalized flower
pot put together for you. Bring your flower pot from home or get a flower pot from us and let us plant
the perfect flowers of your choice. You will also have the opportunity to purchase plants and beautiful
patio pot arrangements that were grown in our greenhouse by the Fairmont Industries students. The plant
sale is Fairmont Industries' largest fundraiser and helps support many of the program's events and
activities. Fairmont Industries is a program that assists high school students with disabilities, in
developing strong life and vocational skills that will enhance the quality of their future. If you have any

Oakwood High School is once again hosting an event for parents to hear what college admissions
counselors have to say about admissions, test scores, application process, college selection, and much
more. This event will take place o Thursday, April 23, at 7 pm in the Oakwood High School
Auditorium, 1200 Far Hills Avenue, Dayton, 45419. Admissions counselors from Case Western
Reserve University, University of Dayton, University of Kentucky, Miami University, Ohio
University, Ohio State University, and for the first time, the University of Notre Dame, will be
sharing their knowledge through a question and answer panel format.
The new members of the Spanish Honor Society will be inducted on Monday, March 16th in the recital
hall at Kettering Fairmont High School at 7:30pm. The newest members are: Ryan "Miguelito" Braun,
Morgan "Juliana" Day, Dylan "Pablo" Foster, Betsy "Luz" Frias, Connor "Ricardo" Lowry, Lauren
"Lorena" Miles. Joe "Jorge" Pokorski, Sabrina "Mariana" Shalash, Davina "Delia" San, Riley "Amata"
Smith Congratultions to these hard-working and dedicated students!
Fairmont High School will be administering the 2014 AP tests during the weeks of May
4th through May 15th. Approximately 300 students will take part in 20 different exams in
math, science, English, social studies, foreign language, and art. The students who take
these exams will have the opportunity to receive enhanced grades in their AP courses,
college credit, and lucrative scholarship offerings. Results will be received over the
summer in mid-July via College Board's on-line reporting.
Exams for students taking classes in the International Baccalaureate program will be
administered from May 4th – 22nd. These include exams for both IB Diploma and IB
Certificate students. There are 40+ students registered for 18 different exams in
English, foreign language, psychology, history, economics, science, math, music,
theater and art. The exam scores are combined with performance-based internal
assessments already completed in each course for a composite score. Like AP exams,
IB marks can lead to college credit and scholarship opportunities for students. Results
will be available in July.
24 Students from Allied Health and Biotechnology participated in the HOSA (Health Occupations
Students of America) State Competition.. The following students placed in the top three in their
events and are now qualified to participate in the National Competition in Anaheim, California in
June.

The artwork is on exhibit at The Robert and Stein Galleries at Wright State, from
March 10 through March 22. All are welcome to visit the exhibit. A reception for
the artists will be held March 22 in the Gallery on March 22nd, 5 pm to 6 pm.
Jessica Brock was recognized by the Montgomery County Drug Free Coalition as 2nd Place for a poster
design. Jake Shook was recognized by AAA Teen Safe Driving for a poster design, 2nd Place.
FCCLA (Family, Career and Community Leaders of America), a new FCS organization at Fairmont
this year, is helping to create quilt blocks for Talitha's Hope this month.
Talitha's Hope is a volunteer organization that creates quilts for the homeless. They obtain and prepare
donated bed sheets and cut them into squares for quilts. Our students will be decorating the squares
which will eventually be sewn into quilts and presented to someone in need.

Alex Dupler and Eric Turner placed 2nd in Sports and Entertainment Marketing. Eric and Alex have qualified to
compete at the International DECA Career Development Conference in Orlando, FL in April. DECA prepares emerging
leaders and entrepreneurs in marketing, finance, hospitality and management in high schools and colleges around the
globe.
