Oakwood High School is once again hosting an event for parents to hear what college admissions counselors have to say about admissions, test scores, application process, college selection, and much more. This event will take place o Thursday, April 23, at 7 pm in the Oakwood High School Auditorium, 1200 Far Hills Avenue, Dayton, 45419. Admissions counselors from Case Western Reserve University, University of Dayton, University of Kentucky, Miami University, Ohio University, Ohio State University, and for the first time, the University of Notre Dame, will be sharing their knowledge through a question and answer panel format. The new members of the Spanish Honor Society will be inducted on Monday, March 16th in the recital hall at Kettering Fairmont High School at 7:30pm. Fairmont High School will be administering the 2014 AP tests during the weeks of May 4th through May 15th. Approximately 300 students will take part in 20 different exams in math, science, English, social studies, foreign language, and art. The students who take these exams will have the opportunity to receive enhanced grades in their AP courses, college credit, and lucrative scholarship offerings. Results will be received over the summer in mid-July via College Board's on-line reporting. Exams for students taking classes in the International Baccalaureate program will be administered from May 4th – 22nd. These include exams for both IB Diploma and IB Certificate students. There are 40+ students registered for 18 different exams in English, foreign language, psychology, history, economics, science, math, music, theater and art. The exam scores are combined with performance-based internal assessments already completed in each course for a composite score. Like AP exams, IB marks can lead to college credit and scholarship opportunities for students. Results will be available in July. 24 Students from Allied Health and Biotechnology participated in the HOSA (Health Occupations Students of America) State Competition.. FCCLA (Family, Career and Community Leaders of America), a new FCS organization at Fairmont this year, is helping to create quilt blocks for Talitha's Hope this month. Talitha's Hope is a volunteer organization that creates quilts for the homeless. They obtain and prepare donated bed sheets and cut them into squares for quilts. Our students will be decorating the squares which will eventually be sewn into quilts and presented to someone in need.
