Students will have a knowledge of the history of photography Students will be able to understand and apply the multi-step process of workflow. Students will be able to identify different types of digital cameras, and the location of their basic components, and the benefits and drawbacks of each type. Students will demonstrate the appropriate use of the camera controls on a digital camera. 5. Students will be able to use and identify memory devices and file types associated with digital cameras and scanners. 6. 7. Students will be able to understand and operate a point and shoot camera or DSLR. Students will be able to demonstrate basic proficiency in the use of Adobe Photoshop. 8. Students will be able to understand and demonstrate the elements of composition. 9. 10. Students will be able to understand and practice copyright laws, ethics, and legal issues. Students will gain an understanding of the careers available in the field of photography. Grading and Attendance The grades in class are earned on a point system in these areas: 1. Photography projects turned in on time: This semester there will be a variety of assigned picture-taking assignments. The photos must be taken during the semester. We will print a variety of photos and photos not in the appropriate folder and ready to print on the assigned due date will not receive full points. Photographs must be taken outside class time in order to have sufficient time to edit and prepare photographs for printing during the class period. No student should ask to leave during class to take photographs. 2. Tests: There will be a term final and a semester final. The semester final in this class is the state CTE Digital Photography Test. 3. Quizzes. 4. Worksheets and other assignments: There will be a research assignment which will be completed during second and fourth term. This assignment will be an out-of-class assignment. Students will also complete a photography journal which will be turned in at the end of each term to be graded. 5. Participation: This includes attendance, being prepared daily, and citizenship. Disruptive or non-working students may lose up to 10 daily points. Points will be given or taken away depending on how a student is working in class. The cumulative points from these tests, projects, and other assignments are converted into percentages for the grade earned. The total points earned will be divided by the total number of points possible to find the percentage. PERCENTAGE BREAKDOWN: A: 94-100% A-: 90-93% B+: 87-89% B: 84-86% B-: 80-83% C+: 77-79% C: 74-76% C-: 70-73% D+:67-69% D: 64-66% D-: 60-63% F: 59% and below Make-up work is the responsibility of the student. A student needs to find out what work or test was missed due to absence, and make up these assignments as quickly as possible. Students may expect to receive the results of tests and major assignments as quickly as possible, usually within a week. If students desire to know their percentage total, that information is available on the internet through Skyward. Students can either access this information at home or on a school computer. ______________________________________________________________________________ Class Rules and Procedures 1. CLEAN-UP: Each student is responsible for the care of his/her possessions, work, and material, and to keep the working area clean. Any lost or stolen materials or possessions will be the responsibility of the students and not the teacher or school. Participation points will be lost if students do not clean up after themselves and complete cleaning assignments given by the teacher. 2. CELL PHONES: The school’s policy on cell phones will be enforced in my classroom. No cell phones should be seen or heard unless they are being used for class assignments. 3. COMPUTERS: The computers in my room are used for editing photographs and other photography assignments. Under no condition are they to be used for games. No student should download anything from the internet onto a computer. All students must log-in under their student ID and all students must sign the internet permission form required by the school and district. 4. RESPECT FOR MISS TUTTLE’S POSSESSIONS AND SUPPLIES: No student should ever be behind Miss Tuttle’s desk or touching her computer. Supplies cost a lot of money and should never be wasted. 5. PREPARATION: Each student is expected to attend daily with the materials needed to work on the current project. The student should have these materials at the beginning of the class period and not ask to go to a locker for such items after the bell has rung. Students who leave class without permission and without a hall pass automatically loose 50 participation points and will be marked truant. 6. CHEATING: Cheating in any form is prohibited in my classroom. Stealing photos off the internet and turning them in is as your own work is completely unacceptable. Stealing another student’s photos and turning them in as your own work is also completely unacceptable. Any student found cheating on any assignment, quiz, or test will receive a zero for that assignment and will not be allowed to make it up. Any student found cheating more than once will be moved from my class to another. 7. ARC TIME: I do allow my students to complete ARC’s in my classroom. I do not give ARC’s to any student who is not currently my student. Students must have the ARC Student Proposal Form printed and filled out and they must inform me at the beginning of the ARC time what they intend to do. This is as my schedule allows and I do not give ARC time during Pride time. ______________________________________________________________________________ Fees $25.00 Art Fee: This fee covers the cost of printing photos for the semester, mounting supplies, photo paper, and other assorted supplies and equipment. You should have paid this fee when you registered. All money must be paid to the accounting office. Please make sure you show me your receipt. __________________________________________________________________ Cameras All students must have access to a digital camera. The best choice would be to have your own you can use at any time. I do have some I check out but you and your parents must sign a camera checkout form and return in to me before you check out a camera. ________________________________________________________ Other Important Items ABSENCES AND TARDIES: The school’s attendance policy will be followed in my class.
