EXPERIENCE USAA San Antonio, TX Dec 2003-Present Contractor The first assignment I was given at USAA was a two-month project to update and enhance the Service Center Metrics reporting system. This system is an Access 2000/VBA application that reports information from an Oracle database to provide information used for auditing help desk activity. Due to changes in the system it interfaced with, it needed to be updated in order to continue to deliver accurate information. When the project was finished, all previous functionality was restored and I had also delivered new functionality. My next assignment was with enterprise process engineering where I was responsible for enhancing two existing Access applications and developing reports for them. I was responsible for adding additional functionality and creating a reporting tool to give managers the ability to design and generate custom ad-hoc reports with custom fields and criteria on an as-needed basis rather than relying on pre-defined reports. I also assisted with a number of smaller data analysis projects. Afterwards, I was assigned to Learning Systems where I developed and maintained a project tracking and resource management tool using Access and VBA. I also developed other Access/VBA applications that gathered and reported information about student performance and provided statistical analysis. Additionally, I worked on a number of minor data analysis projects. My current assignment has brought me back to process engineering. Initially, I developed and maintained a new project-tracking tool using Access and VBA. When this tool was due to be absorbed into the enterprise project management system, I was assigned to the team that maintained and enhanced an interim solution and to the team responsible for transitioning the interim tool to the enterprise system. In addition to these duties, I also developed Access applications to assist process engineering with data collection and analysis for a number of other projects. Silver Bullet Software San Antonio, TX Jun 2002-Dec 2003 Senior Programmer While at Silver Bullet, I was a senior developer on a project for South Texas IDX to develop both a company website and a full-featured website product for realtors. The product was a “turnkey” system that could be customized and updated by users with little or no technical training via simple web pages. Development was done using ASP, VBScript, HTML, CSS and some PERL with Access 2000 serving as the backend database. In addition to development duties, I also served as the administrator for the Windows 2000 servers the company used to host both the company website and client websites. I also worked on a project for SBC’s Financial Accounting department to develop an Access 2000 system to track advertising expenditures. My responsibilities included writing and optimizing SQL, writing VBA code and developing reporting capabilities. Bexar County San Antonio, TX Dec 2001-Jun 2002 Programmer While working for Bexar County, my primary duties were to support the county elections department. I wrote numerous IBM mainframe batch-processing programs using Natural 2 and JCL. I also built and modified numerous batch-generated documents, including voter registration cards, using AFP (Advanced Function Presentation) and OGL (Overlay Generation Language). In addition to these duties, I maintained a Visual Basic / Access application and its associated Crystal Reports and SQL for the Bexar County Department of Housing and Human Services. I also participated in the preparation of system and project documentation. Finally, I was part of the "On-Call" rotation for resolving processing problems with batch jobs that failed during off hours. In 2000 and 2001, I took short term consulting assignments with several organizations. Consulting Company Decision Consultants Intech Staffing Systems Integration Solutions Client Texas Department of Human Services Vectris Communications SBC Services, Inc Assignments: Texas Dept. Human Services Austin, TX Jan-Apr 2001 Contractor I was given a number of duties as part of this assignment. My primary duty was to work as part of a team of developers to create Crystal Reports in a client/server environment to replace a large set of reports written in COBOL on an IBM mainframe. I was responsible for mentoring several COBOL programmers who were being retrained to develop and maintain Crystal Reports. As an outgrowth of my other duties, I was also responsible for setting up their Seagate Info server and training their systems administrator to maintain it. . Vectris Communications Austin, TX Jul – Dec 2000 Contractor During my six months with Vectris, I developed more than 50 standardized Crystal Reports along innumerable ad-hoc reports for data stored on an Oracle 8i database. Some reports provided information concerning equipment inventories, locations and installation schedules while others provided analysis of help desk operations. It was often necessary to create accurate ad-hoc reports from scratch for senior management only a few hours before they were needed for a meeting. As part of my duties, I also developed an interface for running and viewing the standardized reports using Visual Basic 5.0 and the Crystal Reports API. San Antonio, TX Feb – Jun 2000 Contractor At SBC, I was responsible for developing a set of Crystal Reports for SBC's Corporate Real Estate Department to replace an existing set of inadequate and, in some cases, inaccurate reports. The system used an Oracle database to store information about both property owned and leased by SBC and space assignments within that property. This assignment required both travel and working with users around the country via both teleconferencing and videoconferencing. SBC San Antonio, TX Oct 1997 – Feb 2000 Contractor My first assignment at USAA was as a programmer on the CASPAR project helping to develop a new loan origination and processing system for the Bank using BankPro. I was assigned to the forms development team and promoted to Team Lead in February 1998. Our team was responsible for designing, programming and testing the modules for 300 forms used in the system, including legal contracts and insurance documents. When the CASPAR project ended, I became a Crystal Reports developer on a variety of projects. I created over 100 Reports working with data sources like Oracle 7.3 and 8, SQL Server 6.5 and 7.0, PROGRESS, Microsoft Access 97, Excel Spreadsheets, Text Files and Windows NT Event Logs. I was also assigned to setup and maintain Seagate Info on a Windows NT server in order to allow users to access reports via the corporate intranet and provide the capability to automatically generate and deliver reports to users on a set schedule. An important part of my job was to train and support end users. This included one-on-one training; informal group training and formal classroom sessions as well as helping power-users develop their own reports and creating a guide to using Seagate Info. In addition to my other duties, I was responsible for supporting the bank’s CENTRAX regulatory compliance software and served as the database administrator for its Visual FoxPro database. I was responsible for installing the application on new workstations, applying periodic updates from the vendor, assisting users with problems and maintaining the integrity of the database. USAA
