Year Group 6 Peacock Scientific Enquiry Science will be taught in fortnightly blocks with Term 6 science focussing on a criminal investigation. Peacock class will have the opportunity to get all CSI as they use a range of investigative scientific techniques to try to solve clues to help uncover ‘Who dun it’! Start date ICT June 2014 History Pupils will use the internet as a research tool, building their confidence and understanding of how to do so safely, securely and appropriately. Programs and other promotional material will be created using a range of software packages to help advertise the end of year production. In preparation for the end of year production Peacock Class will be watching the original 1939 production of The Wizard of Oz. They will have the opportunity to discuss and compare how a more modern filming of it may look. Art & Design Using a range of techniques pupils will be designing a creating scenes, stage designs and back drops based on the Wizard of Oz. These will be used to help towards the end of year production. Music As part of the end of year production Peacock Class will be learning a range of songs and work to ensure that understand what it means to sing to a performance standard. End date July 2014 Geography “Toto, I’ve a feeling we’re not in Kansas anymore!” We will be following the ‘Yellow Brick Road’ as we take a journey though Oz to the Emerald City. Design Technology THEME The Wizard of Oz The Wizard of Oz is a classic tale that Peacock Class will be using as their end of year production. We will be looking at the details and story behind the play as well as all the extra work that surrounds putting on a play. PE MFL Pupils will continue to develop their swimming skills and water safety. Rounders will be the sports focus with pupils learning the rules and developing their techniques and confidence for batting and fielding. Pupils will continue to develop their confidence and understanding of French. They will practice sharing personal information and encounter new vocabulary to describe and name a range of classroom based items. Role plays will be used to help improve understanding of learned vocabulary. Teaching Skills Content Pupils will be working to design and create ideas for sets, props and costumes to really help bring their end of year production to life. PSHE & Citizenship As part of year 6 PSHE Peacock class will be completing a series of lessons based around the changes they will be going through as they experience puberty. They will have the opportunity to discuss their thoughts, feelings and understanding of both the mental and physical changes that they will go through.
