PARISH CHURCH OF ST MARY THE VIRGIN, THORNBURY WITH ST PAUL, THE HACKETT Annual Vestry Meeting – 26th April, 2015 Present: 61 members of the congregation under the chairmanship of the Vicar, Revd Dr Jan van der Lely The meeting opened with prayers led by Revd Dr Jan van der Lely 1. The minutes of the last vestry meeting were agreed and signed as a true copy. 2. Election of Churchwardens There was one nomination for Mike Keavey with Tim Swan and Phil Jones reluctantly prepared for another period of office if required. Tim Swan and Phil Jones had already served for 6 periods of office and consequently were disqualified from office under the Churchwardens measure 2001, unless a resolution by the parishioners allowed them to be re-elected as wardens. The Vicar read the Section 31 of the Churchwardens Measure 2001. The following proposal was made by Tim Giles “That Churchwardens may serve for an additional successive period of office for this year in the Parish of Thornbury” and seconded by Janet Beaty, 43 voted for the proposal, none against and 5 abstained, therefore the motion was carried. The following were duly elected to serve as Churchwardens for the coming year: Tim Swan, Phil Jones and Mike Keavey. In compliance with the Churchwardens Measure 2001 each signed the required statement confirming that they were eligible and willing to serve. The Vicar expressed the appreciation of the Parish for the work done by the Wardens during the year. 3. The date of next year’s Vestry Meeting is to be decided at a later date. Signed……………………………………… 1 April 2016 Disqualification after six periods of office Without prejudice to section 2 above, a person shall be disqualified from being chosen for the office of churchwarden when that person has served as a churchwarden of the same parish for six successive periods of office until the annual meeting of the parishioners to elect churchwardens in the next year but one following the date on which that person vacated office at the end of the last such period: Provided that a meeting of the parishioners may by resolution decide that this section shall not apply in relation to the parish concerned. Any such resolution may be revoked by a subsequent meeting of the parishioners .
