News Release Frontline 5 - 28 June 2015 MK Gallery Project Space / Admission free Preview: Thursday 4 June 2015 at 5pm / All welcome Work by pupils from four local secondary schools - MK Academy, The Hazeley Academy, Oakgrove School and Lord Grey School – features in the exhibition Frontline, at MK Gallery Project Space this June. The exhibition is part of Great War MK, an Arts and Heritage Alliance MK project marking the centenary of WW1. Since November 2014, artists Teresa Paiva and Alicja Rogalska have been working with Key Stage 3 pupils from each school to explore how the visual arts have been used by artists to depict and interpret military conflict. Through practical workshops and a research visit to the Imperial War Museum London, students have explored the art and ideas of a range of artists, and been encouraged to present their own varied ideas in different media, including sculpture, painting and photography. By participating in this project with MK Gallery pupils have also had the opportunity to achieve their Bronze level Arts Award. Arts Award is a scheme that inspires young people to grow their arts and leadership talents, and enables them to gain a nationally recognised qualification which is accredited on the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF). Speaking of the exhibition, Victoria Mayes, Head of Learning at MK Gallery said: “This project presented a fantastic opportunity for MK Gallery to develop strong relationships with the four participating secondary schools. We’ve been impressed by the journey that the students have undertaken under the creative guidance of our appointed lead artists Teresa Paiva and Alicja Rogalska and look forward to hosting the final exhibition.” /… Related Events Other Great War MK events taking place at MK Gallery include: The Great War Remembered: An evening of live music and film MK Gallery / Friday 29 May / 7pm / Free but pre-booking required via www.mkgallery.org Enjoy a re-telling of the local story of WW1 through an evening of live performances and film screenings, the culmination of a six month project between Living Archive MK and young local songwriters, musicians and film-makers.
