$390
Describe in a paragraph or two the following questions please.
1. Outline the initiative the grant money would be spent on?
To purchase paper and cardboard bins for desk-side recycling for staff. To print and laminate
recycling stickers from the Sustainable Campus web site and affix these on the containers or bins.
To hold a sustainable morning tea with staff using fair trade coffee and tea, low food mile snacks
and to launch the new bins and explain about paper re-use and our goal as a School to reduce
single side paper disposal.
2. What positive environmental outcomes do you predict may occur to improve
sustainability in your workplace as a result of the initiative?
Information, signage and equipment will optimise the opportunity to recycle paper and cardboard
and to reduce single side paper disposal into general waste.
We have audited our paper waste and know that only 60% is going in the recycling bin. The other
40% is going into general waste. Of all that paper we measured that only 24% is double sided. We
want to increase this percentage of double sided until we reach the highest percentage possible.
By having a morning tea with low food mile food and fair trade refreshments we can announce our
goal of reducing paper disposal, how to use the bins and how to double side the paper in the
printing and photocopying functions.
We hope that staff will generally become more environmentally aware through these activities and
the Sustainability Workplace Initiative Team representative.
3. What other assistance or support would be required from the Sustainable Campus Team
to reach these outcomes?
We may require assistance from the Sustainable Campus Team for a further waste audit to see how
the School is progressing to reduce paper disposal after the new equipment and signage has been
put in place.
4. How do you plan to record the success or otherwise of this initiative?
