McGill Integrated Cancer Research Training Program (MICRTP) Letter of Support Montreal, ……………… (appropriate date) Re: …………………… (name of the research trainee) To Whom It May Concern: As ……………………‘s (name of the research trainee) supervisor, I fully support his/her application to register in the MICRTP. I am aware that once admitted into the MICRTP the research trainee under my supervision: 1) will take the Experimental and Clinical Oncology course EXMD 635 (graduate students only within the first 2 years of admittance into the program), 2) will attend 2 obligatory workshops on Knowledge Translation and on Ethics (both, graduate students and postdoctoral fellows within first 3 years of admittance into the program), 3) will participate in the Annual Research Day (highly recommended), 4) will do his/her best to be involved in many activities of the program such as professional workshops, career day, etc., 5) will meet with his/her mentors at least once a year, 6) will be able to take advantage of the competitive stipend and travel support offered by MICRTP and that this is contingent on the research trainee’s effort to apply for salary support to other granting agencies, 7) will promote the MICRTP at the international meetings (appropriate materials will be provided) Also, I am fully aware that this 1-year salary support from MICRTP is only partial ($12,000 for graduate students and $20,000 for postdoctoral fellows) of the required minimum and that it is my responsibility to supplement the difference in salary to at least that recommended by CHIR. Furthermore, if the research trainee is successful in securing funding from other sources while receiving MICRTP funding, I will notify MICRTP coordinators immediately, at which time, the MICRTP funding will cease. Best regards, …………………………………. (Professors’ name and signature)
