Turning the tide
ERIKS MARINE INDUSTRY SERVICES
Inside:
When time isn’t on your side, we are
Off-hire time. Late docking time. Delayed sailing time. When it feels as if time is against
you, ERIKS Marine Industry Services can help to turn the tide, with comprehensive
component supply, extensive engineering resources, and technical expertise in repair and
replacement – all supported by a global logistics infrastructure.
Whether it’s key equipment failure, damage from grounding or other accidents, problems
with cargo handling gear, temperature control and refrigeration equipment, or charging or
discharging machinery – when you need a situation resolved you need it resolved quickly. So
you need a supplier you can rely on to supply the right parts, to the right place, at the right
time.
That means you need a supplier with a complete understanding of the marine industry and
the equipment it employs, of the demands of classification and legislation, and with the
know-how and capability to repair or replace – and even upgrade – at sea, in port, or in dry
dock, whether in an emergency or during a scheduled service.
ERIKS Marine Industry Services has the products, the expertise, and the resources, to get
your vessel back on hire, out of port or dry dock and back on schedule – quickly, efficiently,
and cost-effectively.
Repair or replace?
When a breakdown occurs, the temptation is to effect a repair immediately and get your
vessel underway as soon as possible.
In fact, if your chosen engineering partner has repair expertise but no capability to supply a
replacement, that will be the only option offered. Even though it could have a worse impact
in terms of cost or scheduling further down the line.
ERIKS Marine Industry Services, on the other hand, has the capability and resources to offer
you – where practical – the option to repair or replace. So you can make your decision
based on what’s best for your budget and your schedule. In addition, ERIKS’ extensive inhouse engineering facilities give you better control over lead times – as well as quality – so
that, if you opt for a temporary repair, a full repair can be more effectively scheduled to suit
your requirements and availability of the replacement item.
More monitoring, less off-hire time
Condition Based Monitoring (CBM) is another ERIKS service which can deliver extensive
benefits for your budget, your schedule, and your off-hire time.
Our highly-trained, dedicated, CBM technicians – who have extensive vessel experience –
can carry out a range of monitoring services to help you establish a reliability-based
maintenance strategy. As well as reducing the risk of catastrophic failures, extending
equipment life and increasing productivity, CBM can even be used to extend the interval
between inspections, on agreement with the relevant classification bodies.
ERIKS CBM services comprise:






Box-out:
The in-house advantage
Unlike many component suppliers, ERIKS Marine Industry Services has extensive
engineering facilities. This means ERIKS can be totally solution neutral: carrying out a repair
rather than a replacement if this would be more cost-effective.
In addition, ERIKS’ marine engineering expertise opens up even more possibilities. For
example, whilst recently dismantling an alternator in preparation for a rewind, ERIKS
technicians realised they could upgrade the rewind to provide the same output in a smaller
footprint, and were able to offer this option to the customer as a cost-saving alternative.
Suppliers lacking in-house engineering facilities can only offer replacement parts, not
expertise and cost-saving solutions.
