Request from Radio and Television Service, News and Media Division Department of Public Information JOB DESCRIPTION INT-090-08-P170-01-V (July 2009) General Information Title: Associate Expert in Multimedia production (videography and advanced knowledge of web design/development) Duration: 1 year (with possible extension for another year) Date Required: as soon as possible Duty Station (location, sector): UN Headquarters, New York Supervision by : Title of the supervisor: Director, News and Media Division, Chief, Radio and Television Service Content and methodology of the supervision: The multimedia producer will have regular discussions with and assignments from Ms. Farkas and will participate in meetings of the Multimedia Task Force. The multimedia producer will be evaluated and will get feedback on performance, similar to the UN e-Pas process, with a yearly work plan, mid-year review, and year-end evaluation. Duties, responsibilities and output expectations: S/he will: - produce (shoot, edit, and post) multimedia presentations on the Multimedia web site (www.unmultimedia.org) ; - research video material on UN stories; - use multimedia content to reach out to youth – by increasing the presence of RTVS content on the web through YouTube and other social networking sites; - assist in developing creative content for website and for radio, photo, and TV; - create products featuring the UN’s audiovisual archives. Qualifications and experience: UN competencies: Professionalism – Good knowledge of the United Nations and international affairs; strong communication (spoken and written) skills, including the ability to draft/compile a variety of written communications products in a clear, concise style and effectively interact with the public in communicating information and building/maintaining effective relationships. Planning and Organising – Ability to establish priorities and to plan, coordinate and monitor own work plan and the support staff under his/her supervision. Technological Awareness – Proficiency with computers especially software packages for multimedia presentations (PowerPoint or equivalent). Communications – Excellent command of English. Strong communication skills (spoken and written), ability to effectively interact with the public in communicating information and building/maintaining effective relationships. Proficiency in another official UN language is a plus. Judgment - Demonstrated ability to apply good judgment in the context of assignments given. Teamwork – Good interpersonal skills and ability to establish and maintain effective partnerships and working relations in a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic environment with sensitivity and respect for diversity. Qualifications: Education: Advanced university degree in communications, journalism, public relations or other related field, or equivalent. Experience: A minimum of 2 years of progressively responsible professional experience at the national level in journalism, communications, public relations or related fields (paid or unpaid); international experience is desirable. Prior journalism, online content management background a plus. Other skills: Familiarity with the fields of broadcast and new media as well as the information technology sector. Strong knowledge of digital video formats and workflows. Detailed knowledge of Final Cut Pro, Photoshop, Flash, animation (2D, 3D, etc.) and other web-related software. Must be knowledgeable in the different types of media formats. Must be proficient with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access). Learning Elements After the assignment the ASSOCIATE EXPERT will be able to: Shoot, edit and post stories on the Multimedia web page Create and manage multimedia presentations on the web Disseminate short, entertaining content from the best productions of the UN system through social networking sites Work with a wide range of people in a multicultural environment Background information General information about the organizational structure of the local UN organization (organigramme attached): The Radio and Television Service provides radio, television, photo and multimedia content to broadcasters around the world and also comprises video, photo and audio archives. Outline planned developments concerning the programme/ project: 1. The Radio and Television Service (RTVS) is constantly seeking to expand and improve its output on the internet, with the development of new, creative products. 2. The Radio and Television Service will participate more and more in social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter. The producer will contribute to these new ventures. 3. The RTVS is always looking for fresh ideas, in particular short products for its channel on YouTube. The producer will propose and produce such content. 4. The UN’s audiovisual archives offer many opportunities for re-purposing content. The multimedia producer will propose and produce such content.
