The Canada-Newfoundland and Labrador Offshore Petroleum Board (C-NLOPB) is the authority that regulates the offshore oil and gas industry off the coasts of Newfoundland and Labrador on behalf of the governments of Canada and the Province. The C-NLOPB invites applications for the following position: SENIOR EXPLORATION GEOPHYSICIST The Senior Exploration Geophysicist will be a member of the Board’s Exploration Department. Reporting to the Exploration Manager, responsibilities of this position will include: Evaluation and interpretation of 2D and 3D seismic data Coordinating and conducting reviews related to authorizations, approvals, and data submission Conducting offshore undiscovered hydrocarbon resource assessments Monitoring exploration programs and regulatory compliance Participating/leading geophysical studies and special projects related to exploration geosciences Reviewing geophysical regulatory documents and guidelines and recommending changes Providing geophysical advice and support to other Board Departments Assisting and providing guidance to junior technical staff Liaison with external stakeholders and consultants Other related duties assigned as required Applicants must possess a Bachelor’s degree in geology or geophysics and be eligible for registration as a professional geoscientist with the Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Newfoundland and Labrador. Completion of an advanced degree would be considered an asset. Candidates should have experience working at a Senior Geophysicist level and at least seven years experience in exploration. The successful candidate must have thorough knowledge of geophysical methods and demonstrate strong geophysical interpretation skills. Proficient computer skills are essential and include advanced knowledge of geophysical software such as Petrel or other seismic interpretation packages.
