[Add local authority name] signs new commitment to improve recycling
and rubbish collections
[X local authority] has today, signed up to a new national Commitment to ensure
residents in XX area/district receive a waste and recycling collection service which
meets their needs and represents value for money.
[Suggested quote] XX of XX said: “By signing up to the Household Waste & Recycling
Commitment XXX council is reinforcing the message of commitment to both service
and value to our residents. The Commitment makes it clear what residents can
expect from our service and we hope it will improve satisfaction.”
The Household Recycling and Waste Collection Commitment builds on a previous
commitment and has been expanded to focus on communicating with residents, and
now includes services such as Household Waste and Recycling Centres (HWRCs) on
top of kerbside collections. The commitment is based on research into what people
like and dislike about their existing services and issues that are important to them.
These include regular and reliable collections and clean streets after collections. The
Commitment has been developed by a working group comprising representatives
from Defra, WRAP (Waste & Resources Action Programme), the Local Government
Association (LGA), the National Consumer Federation and a number of Local
Authorities. It sets out ten points which the Council will meet in delivering in its
service.
The Household Recycling and Waste Collection Commitment says:
We are committed to providing waste and recycling services which are good value
for money and which meet the needs of our residents. This means we will:
1. We will communicate clearly with you about your recycling and waste
services.
2. We will provide reliable and regular collections.
3. You may want to do more to help. We will let you know how you can make a
difference for the environment.
4. We will let you know of other ways and places where you can recycle or take
unwanted items.
5. Your views are important and we will listen to them.
6. We will help you do the right thing with your recycling and waste, and show
you that we appreciate your efforts.
7. We will act on your concerns about litter.
8. We will make household waste and recycling centres (and other shared
facilities we look after) as easy to use as possible.
9. We will make it easy for you to give us your feedback.
10. We will keep trying to improve our recycling and waste services to you.
