Helen Rule, a sculptor and jewelry designer from Atlanta, Ga., and the sister/daughter of the gallery’s co-owners, will be showcasing her Samurai! collection. This collection of sculpture, wearable art and chain maille jewelry is inspired by Samurai armor and other traditional military arts. Included in the show will be three helmets, a full suit of armor and a decorative Japanese chain maille piece. Though Rule’s works are inspired by traditional Japanese arts, her designs are unique and painstakingly handmade. “We're excited to see local artist Helen Rule embracing the intricacy and beauty of Samurai armor through art, and hope that her exhibit will help bring together the Japanese and American communities together here in Georgia,” said Yoshi Domoto, Executive Director of The Japan-America Society of Georgia. Rule’s show will run alongside the work of Anne Forman. Forman, a fashion professor, textile designer, and printmaker from Chicago, Ill., will be showcasing a collection of patterns in paintings and prints from The Fall Collection. The November 4 opening reception will be held at 85 Church St. (on Church St. between Mill St. and Hansell St.) from 6 to 9 p.m. The event is free and open to the public and will include live music and refreshments. The show will remain up through November 26, 2011. Gallery hours of operation are Tuesday through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. The gallery will be closed for Thanksgiving on November 23 and November 24. Unlike many Atlanta-area art galleries with a fine art focus, 2 Rules Fine Art also features great design. The brainchild of mother and sculptor Lois Rule and daughter and graphic designer/educator Becky Rule, 2 Rules Fine Art gallery bridges the gap between what is considered fine art and great design by showcasing creative works that utilize or reference commercial processes and themes. In addition to ongoing gallery showings, 2 Rules Fine Art is offering different classes every month covering both traditional art techniques and 2D design topics. November artist Helen Rule will be teaching a Beginning Chain Maille workshop on November 8 and November 15 from 6 to 9 p.m. Cost is $75 per class or $135 for both classes. A - more - 2 Rules Fine Art – page two lecture-style class, History of Typography, will be held on November 3, November 10 and November 17 from 6 to 9 p.m. Cost is $35 per class or $90 for all three classes. About 2 Rules Fine Art Founded in 2011, 2 Rules Fine Art is an Atlanta area art gallery whose mission is to pave the way for the presentation and promotion of works of art and design that utilize or reference commercial processes and themes. In doing so, 2 Rules Fine Art seeks to bridge the gap between what is considered fine art and what is considered great design. As society advances technologically, methods for creating objects and printed works become more and more digitized and commoditized; as a result, many traditionally commercial skills are becoming more and more scarce. Those individuals that still create using these forgotten media are doing so not for mass production, but to produce limited or original works that have become, by their very rarity, works of art. In addition to works that use these commercial processes, 2 Rules Fine Art displays paintings and other traditional media that reference designed or commercial items, an increasingly popular notion given society's bombardment by advertising. These works use typography, stencils and imagery reminiscent of printed books or flyers and repeating patterns. 2 Rules Fine Art is located in Atlanta’s premiere art market, Marietta, Ga., at 85 Church Street.
