CREATIVE MEDIA PRODUCTION AND MEDIA STUDIES AT RICHARD HUISH COLLEGE COURSES The courses currently offered are: AS and A Level Media Studies (WJEC) A Level Film Studies (WJEC) Film Enrichment From September 2014 the following courses will be offered: BTEC Certificate and Subsidiary Diploma in Creative Media Production (Film and Television) BTEC Extended Diploma in Creative Media Production (Film and Television) A Level Media Studies (A Level only) BTEC Certificate and Subsidiary Diploma in Media Production (Film and Television) & BTEC Extended Diploma in Media Production (Film and Television) This is an exciting venture for the college. From September 2014 we will be offering new courses in Media Production and we are looking for an individual who has experience in this area and enthusiasm to create and develop this course. There will be one Extended Diploma Class starting in 2014 and two BTEC Certificate classes. The Certificate/Subsidiary Diploma course will include Units in Pre-Production Techniques, Communication Skills and Research Techniques for the Creative Media Industries. The Extended Diploma will, in addition to the above units, include a Creative Media Production Management Project, Understanding the Television and Film Industries, and Film and Video Editing Techniques. 'A' Level Media Studies - The course is delivered by full and part-time teachers and is supported by a technician, who also runs the practical Film Enrichment. The A2 year follows the WJEC syllabus, and currently focusses on Film, TV and Advertising industries. 2014 will be the last year of delivery for A Level Media Studies. Film Enrichment is offered to support students in the art of practical film making. Currently offered with the use of industry standard cameras, students develop their skills in cinematography, editing and the use of sound. This is offered as an enrichment activity with the focus on those students that wish to further enhance and develop their practical skills, or apply for a practical course at university. In addition to this the department has taken a number of students to Glastonbury Festival each year and filmed on the John Peel Stage, alongside industry professionals. THE STUDENTS Our students are 16-19 year olds, studying A Levels/BTEC qualifications and who are keen to do well.. Students involve themselves fully in all that is offered by the course area, including Film enrichment, and off site visits such as London, coupled with more local visits to the Cinemas and Arts Centres in the South West. STAFFING There is currently one full-time teacher and one part-time teacher of Media/Film Studies. The team is highly experienced, with postgraduate qualifications in the field. Teaching staff are also involved in external examining and moderating work for the WJEC. The team share their resources and expertise, which is wideranging. ACCOMMODATION The Media/Film team currently occupy two teaching rooms, one of which is a dedicated Media computer facility. Students and staff share a photographic studio with Photography, have the use of an equipped media lab with computer, film-making and editing facilities. The teaching rooms are large and well equipped and have networked computers with data projection facilities and interactive whiteboards. The room dedicated to Film has a Blu-ray player, wide-screen projector and surround sound. Further investment is taking place as the college moves to offering the BTEC Extended Diploma. THE PERSON We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic person who can develop the BTEC Media course which will include writing the modules and thus have the opportunity to shape this Extended Diploma. The person appointed will be able to work effectively with the Film/Media Team, and be able to work individually in delivering a meaningful educational experience for our students. The Course Manager will need to be able to continue to write and develop the course, as well as lead the team and is responsible for the quality of the course.
