WALTON COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT POSITION DESCRIPTION NETWORK SECURITY ENGINEER QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Minimum of 5 years of experience in Network Security design and operations and advanced network administration. 2. Expert knowledge of information security methodologies with proof of knowledge by way of upto-date certifications or experience. 3. Knowledge of and experience in developing and documenting network and security architecture topology diagrams and related documentation. 4. A strong understanding of the business impact of security tools, technologies and related practices. 5. Working technical knowledge of bandwidth management, Virtual Private Networks, enterprise network management, and fundamental problem/change management. 6. Knowledge and practical application of security principals including firewalls, access control, vulnerability management, intrusion detection and security monitoring. 7. Proven ability to design, implement, maintain and support local and remote enterprise networks including a managed MPLS and IPsec VPN tunnel. 8. Experience in providing all levels of initial and on-going technical support for all LAN/WAN related operations. 9. Ability to proactively look for process improvement opportunities, challenge conventional practices, adopt new methods and best practices as related to network security. 10. Experience in supporting a heterogeneous environment: Windows 2003/2008/2012 and Linux. 11. Design, installation, configuration and ongoing maintenance of all wireless network systems, all wireless peripherals and associated wireless client software. 12. Securely architect and implement LAN/WAN network designs such as BYOD initiatives and public and private wired/wireless networks. 13. Proactively manage all electronic mail servers to include Exchange, Archiving, OWA and Office 365. 14. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Bachelor’s degree in Technology related field. 2. Security Architecture and Administration. 3. Strong working knowledge of Exchange Server Administration 4. Technical certifications relating to Networking and Security. 5. Experience in Linux and Microsoft Server operating systems. REPORTS TO: Technology Information Officer SUPERVISES: None POSITION GOALS Be responsible for the configuration, implementation and maintenance of various technologies managed by the Information Technology Department. This positions primary focus is the administration of the network and security responsibilities, but also exchange administration, disaster recovery and backups. PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Assists in the planning, design, documentation and implementation of various systems to include network and security equipment. 2. Designs, installs, upgrades, and configures local and wide area network hardware and infrastructure. 3. Develops, maintains and monitors procedures for all server backups. 4. Coordinate new implementations of all network components (routers, switches, etc.) and solutions, including troubleshooting procedures. 5. Perform on-site and remote technical support. 6. Maintains excellent communication with the Technology Information Officer on all tasks and projects. 7. Creates and maintains good technical documentation. 8. Assist the Technology Information Officer in planning IT budget relating to Network and Security. 9. Installs and tests computers and related network hardware in a LAN/WAN environment. 10. Maintains updated network maps of all sites. 11. Ensures data is backed up on a regular basis using current backup software. 12. Oversees computer security and anti-virus updates, etc. 13. Ensures all software is properly licensed and up-to-date. 14. Performs other duties as assigned. PHYSICAL REQUIRMENTS: Lifting and bending TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Twelve months, 8 hours per day, 5 days per week. Salary to be based on the Board adopted NonBargaining Unit Salary Schedule. To insure optimal network up-time for all user departments, performance may include after work hours. EVALUATION: Performance of this position will be evaluated annually by the Technology Information Officer in accordance with Board policy for the evaluation of Non-Instructional personnel. PAY GRADE: Non Bargaining Unit Salary Schedule (Network Security Engineer).
