Position Description: Manager, Marketing and Communications Food Banks Canada supports a unique network of over 3,000 food-related organizations in every province and territory that assists over to 800,000 Canadians each month. Visit foodbankscanada.ca for more information. Purpose Manage the implementation of communication strategies, plans and services in support of Food Banks Canada’s mission. Provide strategic communications advice, planning and senior writing support to engage multiple audiences. Specific Accountabilities Working in a team based environment the Manager, Marketing and Communications will be responsible for the following: Communication planning and execution– 50% Work collaboratively to assist in execution of Food Banks Canada’s communication plans and manage communication calendar. Lead Food Banks Canada’s online presence including expanding social media opportunities and management of Food Banks Canada’s website and intranet. Develop and maintain relevant content on the website and increase traffic on public and internal intranet. Work closely with external agencies, suppliers and partners to develop and produce organizational communication materials (annual report, brochures). Be proficient in using key communication tools including donor and membership communications email, newsletters, website and public relations. Plan and execute of Hunger Awareness Week and World Food Day. Provide senior writing support including developing content for website and writing and editing documents such as news releases and media advisories, key messages, Q&As and speeches. Support staff team with communications requirements and issues management Respond to public inquiries regarding Food Banks Canada’s mission, membership and services. Support administrative efforts including follow-up with membership, data entry, data analysis and reporting. Brand Development – 25% Work to execute brand engagement plans to increase the profile and awareness of the Food Banks Canada brand with external and internal audiences. Assist in brand image maintenance and continued efforts in brand development including following brand and communications style guides. Steward the brand to ensure all communication meets brand identity guidelines. Leverage opportunities across media channels to promote the Food Banks Canada brand. Membership Communications – 25% Build positive working relationships with our membership of 10 provincial associations and 500 food banks through proactive communication and improving on established communication tools including newsletter, intranet, e-news Work to increase awareness of Food Banks Canada with its membership Education, Experience and Attributes • Degree in communications, journalism, public relations or related field, or equivalent experience in related fields Minimum 4-6 years’ experience in a non-profit, agency, government or corporate environment. Experience working with a national program or non-profit/charitable organization an asset Understanding and proficiency of communication approach to a number of key audiences including the public, membership, corporate and government Proven written and verbal communication skills, attention to detail and strong proofreading skills Strong organizational skills with ability to effectively coordinate multiple projects, meet deadlines and priorities. Some events management experience an asset Proven experience working with social media, including engagement with online communities Problem solving, customer service and relationship building experience Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and exposure to database systems (Raisers Edge) an asset Experience working with teams including volunteers and students Professional and self-confident Initiative, self-starter, ability to work with little supervision and Thrives in a face-paced, dynamic environment Excellent interpersonal skills (political acuity) Committed to organizational mission of ending hunger and a familiarity with the issues surrounding hunger and poverty an asset Fluency in French (verbal and written) preferred Time Requirements Food Banks Canada’s regular office hours are Monday – Friday 9:00 am – 5:00pm. This position is permanent full-time. Some hours may be flexible as the nature of the work and the time zone differences must be taken into consideration when determining hours of work. It is understood that all team members are often required to work irregular hours to ensure that the objectives of the organization are being met. This includes the potential for some evenings and weekends.
