GENERAL
The following instructions in respect of fire precautions and drill must be adhered to by all persons
hiring the Council Chamber or other room(s) in the District Council Offices, St Peters Street, St
Albans.
Fortunately, the risk factors in the building are not high but any number of unexpected factors can
cause fires. All persons should be alert therefore to the possibility of fire.
The hirer must nominate one person to act as Evacuation Warden for the Hall or room(s) being used.

(ii)
Leave the building, using the nearest available emergency exit and report to the assembly point.
(iii)
Do not delay to collect personal belongings;
(iv)

(v)
Do not re-enter the building until advised by the Council’s Fire Co-ordinator that it is safe to do so.
The Evacuation warden must take charge of any evacuation and ensure that no one is left in the

The assembly area is:
PAVED AREA, FRONT OF ALBAN ARENA
There is unfortunately still a possibility of terrorist activity and if you are suspicious of any item(s),
please do not investigate but advise Building and Facilities immediately. Do not touch or move the
suspicious item.
The evacuation procedure set out above should then apply, making sure you avoid the suspect
location when proceeding to the assembly point.
It will be necessary from time to time to arrange a practice evacuation from this building. Please act
responsibility and ensure that visitors or members of the public are courteously assisted from the
premises if this should happen while you are occupying the premises.

of the building the following method of testing will be adopted:(i)
Continuous ringing of the fire alarm bell will denote the outbreak of fire or evacuation exercise.

normally be tested every Monday at approximately 10.30am.
