Job Description Graduate Environmental Health Officer (Part-time) Grade: 6 Directorate: People and Places Section: Environmental Health Responsible to: Environmental Health Officer Responsible for: Location: Civic Centre Post Title: Post No: N/A Overall Job Purpose: To work within the Environmental Protection Department under the direct supervision of the Environmental Health Officers, enforcing all matters relating to general public health and environmental protection, in accordance with statutory requirements, Council policy, and the Environmental Health & Community Safety work plan. Key Tasks & Responsibilities: To carry out general inspections and re-inspections and ensure these are undertaken in accordance with the provisions of environmental legislation and any regulations made thereunder, with regard to all matters relating to Environmental Protection. To assist with the drafting, serving and following through formal and informal notices and prosecutions under relevant legislation appropriate to the grade. To prepare and submit detailed reports and similar in respect of any inspection undertaken. To ensure that all administrative arrangements within the Section are complied with and to record and update details of inspections and work carried out, works requested etc, and to assist with the compilation of statistical information relevant to the Section. To advise, inform and assist the public. This will include the interpretation of legislation and where necessary discussions and referral to other agencies To support and provide full and detailed advice, assistance and information to the Senior Environmental Health Officer and Head of Environmental Health & Community Safety, as and when required, in order that departmental objectives can be met. To participate in corporate projects both within the local authority and with appropriate outside bodies (as applicable). To relate any specific problem or difficulty to the Senior Environmental Health Officer or District Environmental Health Officers for clarification and assistance as and when necessary. To assist as required the Senior Environmental Health Officer and the Head of Environmental Health & Community Safety, in the carrying out of any other functions falling within the responsibility of the Environmental Health & Community Safety Department. To attend as directed any internal or external training seminar or similar commensurate with the range of duties undertaken. To assist in the effective training of all work placement attached to the Environmental Health & Community Safety Department as and when necessary. To undertake any other duties required by the Director of People & Places, Head of Environmental Health & Community Safety and the Senior Environmental Health Officer in Environmental Protection, which are appropriate to the duties and grading of the job, in order to achieve flexibility of the work as a whole and to cover for sickness or holidays subject to the provisions of the national scheme of conditions of service. Casual car user allowance. Casual Car User’s will be paid at the middle band. You will be required to provide your own means of transport. May be required to work outside the council’s normal working day for which time off in lieu will be granted.
