YEAR ONE CURRICULUM PLANNING
Year One Autumn Term
AUTUMN ONE
THE ANIMAL DOCTOR –Mentor Text: Owl Babies Fiction- Retell
Non fiction- Letter- From mam in nest. Owls reply asking for her to get things.
Science: Identify and name a variety of common animals e.g. reptiles, birds, mammals
(fur, feathers, scales)
Science: identify and name a variety of common animals that are carnivores, herbivores
and omnivores
Science: describe and compare the structure of a variety of common animals (fish,
amphibians, reptiles, birds and mammals including pets)
Art: Context – The Animal Doctor, Media – paint, printing, collage, drawing, Element –
colour, pattern, line, texture
To learn about the work of a range of artists (Franz Marc, Eric Carle, Albrecht Durer).
To describe differences and similarities between artists and make links to their own
work.
To use a range of materials creatively (collage).
To use drawing and painting to develop and share their ideas and imagination.
To develop knowledge of techniques of artists – printing and collage.
RE- 1 week block- Harvest (including church visit)
Protective Curriculum- Drug/ Alcohol/ Medicine – visited through animal topic with VET

Genre- Fiction (Retell)
Instructions- Make a new potion to fix the broom
SENSES – SPOOKY POTIONS (Alexander Fleming) & Christmas Market

which part of the body is associated with each sense.
Geography: Name, locate and identify characteristics of the four countries and capital
cities of the United Kingdom and its surrounding area.

Non Fiction- Information Book- describe gruffalo
Geography: Geography place knowledge; Understand geographical similarities and
differences through studying the human and physical geography of a small area of the
United Kingdom and of a small area in a contrasting non – European country.
Art: Context - Super Sunderland, Media – sculpture, Element – shape, form and space
To develop knowledge of ‘sculpture’ and how it both reflects and shapes local history.
To identify differences and similarities between the work of artists, designers from
different times.
To develop skill in a range of sculpture techniques, trying out different tools and media.
