Summary
This unit relates to your competence in developing specific programmes, plans or projects. These activities may be reactive (in response to change of circumstances
or external demands) or proactive (ideas and strategies for improvement or development of the organisation or service).
Who this unit is aimed at
This unit is for you if you have responsibility for project management of designated programmes or have sole responsibility for the day to day running of an
organisation as well as its service. You are likely to be working with or making proposals to a governing body (management team, shareholders group) and
providing them with advice to the standards set out in the elements.
Principles of good practice
In order to prepare proposals to meet the organisation’s objectives and respond to opportunities and problems you need to be able to put the proposals in the
context of the organisation’s wider work and objectives.
In order to evaluate and amend proposals you need to be able to take account of the cost, benefits, opportunities and problems which will affect the proposals and to
make amendments to the proposals to take account of these.
In order to provide professional and technical advice you need to be able to distinguish advice from opinion, identify any self-interest which may affect the advice
and offer the advice in an understandable way.
In order to generate support and resources you need to be able to present the case for any programme, project or plan in a clear, unambiguous way which reflects
the values and policies of the organisation.
In order to negotiate agreement for programmes, projects and plans you need to be able to negotiate in line with organisational policies, taking account in any
concessions of the original intent and the wider implications for the organisation.
