Handbook:
This handbook has been created to assist you in your role as a team official. The handbook also assists us in keeping records of Desert Storm School Sport NT participation. Please check the handbook for any questions you may have before contacting the Cluster Administration Officer or other Desert Storm official. The handbook, including copies of team sheets and a completed Event
Report must be returned to the Cluster Administration Official at the conclusion of your event.
Calendar:
A calendar including all Desert Storm/School Sport NT events has been included in the handbook.
Please check for selection trial dates for your sport.
Desert Storm Cluster:
Desert Storm Cluster is a combination of two education regions – Desert Oaks and Central Storm.
Our Cluster includes almost 60 schools including Boroloola and Yulara and all schools in between.
Teams representing Desert Storm Cluster (i.e. not Alice Springs or Tennant Creek and not
“Larapinta Primary” or “Gillen Primary”)
Selection:
Each team will be selected at a Desert Storm Cluster trial day or event. Team officials should be available to attend the trials and to assist in the team selection.
A breakdown of events and ages requirements is included in this handbook. Also included is a list of dates that nomination forms must be received by SSNT. Please forward these to your Cluster
Administration Officer before the due date. See letterhead for contact details .
Notification:
Team officials will send/give letters to all students selected. The letter shall congratulate the student on selection as well as detail all information relevant to your event.
Examples of these letters are included in this handbook.
Travel:
All team members must travel together to the NT Program Event. Travel is to be organised by the team officials through your cluster administration officer. School Sport NT (SSNT) will organise a coach to your event. All students travelling from Desert Storm locations to Darwin will pay $200 total for the travel component of the levy. Students travelling to Katherine will pay $180 travel.
Travel and basic accommodation is supplied to each team official, with the costs met by School
Sport NT. You will be notified of all travel and accommodation details when finalised.
Forms:
There are a number of forms that need to be completed and returned to School Sports NT.
A blank copy of each form is included in this handbook – copy as required and distribute to all participants.
Basic first aid is the responsibility of the Team Officials. A first aid kit can be collected from Leanne
Usher at Larapinta Primary School for use during School Sport NT events. There will be a Sports
Medicine representative at all events for more major injuries. Students are required to provide their own strapping if required.
Uniforms:
Each Desert Storm student must purchase a Desert Storm uniform shirt and hat as part of their levy. A try-on-kit is available from Leanne Usher at Larapinta Primary School. This will include one shirt of each size and a hat of each size. Fill in the accompanying form and return to Leanne
ASAP, so that she can fill the order in time for your event.
Team officials will receive a Desert Storm T-shirt at no cost to themselves, please include your sizes when completing the form.
Levy:
Each student must pay a levy to attend School Sport NT events.
This levy will ultimately be determined by the travel costs.
Each levy will include the following:
Participation Levy:
$65 Exchange (U13) – lunches will be provided during the event.
$45 Championships - students will be required to arrange their own lunch.
Morning Tea/First Aid Levy:
$10 this will provide students with a selection of morning tea items, eg fruit/muesli bars
(Team officials will need to organise the morning tea using these funds)
Uniform Levy:
$50.00

Desert Storm will supply each student with a water bottle. It is the responsibility of the Team
Officials to ensure the students are well hydrated. Desert Storm is required to supply a
Daddy Cool (large drink cooler) to be filled with water and ice during the event. I f you can’t get one from your school consider asking McDonalds
Billeting:
Billeting is the preferred method of accommodation during School Sport NT events. All students must fill out the appropriate forms as to where they will be staying during the events.
If a student is to be privately billeted it is the responsibility of the host to ensure the student is at all events, meetings and functions at the correct time.
All other students will have their Host Family supplied by School Sport NT and families will be notified prior to the event as to where their child will be staying and can be contacted during the event. These forms are included in this handbook.
