Studio C School of Dance
Competition Dance Policies and Procedures
Commitment:
Each dancer is committing to the entire competition year at Studio C, which will include one convention, and three or more competitions.
There also will be public performances the competition company will participate including, but not limited to the Studio C annual spring
recital, Labor Day Parade and other Studio C publicity performances.
Class Enrollment:
All competitive students must be enrolled in the required ballet class and the technique classes that assist their primary competition class or
classes. All competition students will be required to take the studio workshops. See the workshop schedule.
Attendance Standards:
Parents and competitive students agree to a minimum attendance standard. Attendance at all classes, workshop, extra rehearsals and
choreography are mandatory. Students who miss more than 2 classes in a month will be put on probation and will be expected to make up
those classes with a private lesson with the appropriate instructor. Classes the week of competition or convention are mandatory. If you miss
a class for any reason you are required to either schedule a private lesson or meet with another dancer to the get the choreography and
changes that you may have missed. Studio C has the right at any time to remove a student from a line for any reason. At any time an
instructor can request extra rehearsals for a student who needs extra attention. These will be viewed as private lessons and will be charged
accordingly. The parent and instructor/director will work together to schedule these as soon as possible after the request has been made.
Dress Code:
All dancers must be in appropriate dance attire for every class. Hair must be pinned back and up unless the instructor requests something
different. Ballet attire for females will consist of pink tights, black leotard and neat bun. Ballet attire for males will consist of black shorts or
pants and black or white shirts. Those not prepared for ballet class will not participate and will have to make that class up in a private after
the first offense.
Choreography, Practice and Extra Rehearsals:
All choreography classes are mandatory. Parents are aware that each competitive dancer is a valuable member of the company and the
rest of the dancers depend on them working hard and practicing at home. Teachers will sometimes call for extra rehearsals or as deemed
necessary. All competitive dancers must attend these rehearsals. These extra rehearsals will cost $5.00 per dancer per line.
Costume Fees:
Costumes fee deposits are due Sept 15th. The balance is due by Dec 1st. Balance totals will be given out as soon as they are determined.
The cost for stones will be in the cost for the costume for the line. All solo, trio, duet costumes and stone fees will be paid as soon as they are
determined. Costume fees will range from $125.00-$150.00. Elite costumes do not have a set costume cost. All costume designs and
decisions are made by the director.
Competition/Convention Fees:
Parents are aware that competitions charge a participation fee per dancer. These can be as low as $21.00 per dancer and go as high as
$130.00 for solos, duets and trio’s. Once the fees are available from the competition or convention, a notice will go home detailing these fees
and the deadline for these fees will be given. These may not be paid by credit card.
Timing of Competition and Conventions:
Parents will be informed with the specific dates of the competitions and conventions. Competitions often do not notify the studio of the
exact days and the times until the week of the competition. I will notify each parent/competitor of the exact time and days when the
information is available to the school. Please understand the school has no control of these times and days. Do not contact the
competition/convention directly. PLEASE NOTE: SOME COMPETITIONS AND CONVENTIONS ARE SCHEDULED ON SCHOOL DAYS.
Solos, Duets and Trio’s:
Solos, duets and trios will be taught separately as private classes and are charged accordingly. If you cancel the day of a private lesson, you
will still have to pay the instructor. If you are late to a private lesson, you will be required to pay the full amount of the lesson.
Transportation:
Parents are aware that most competitions and conventions are located in Columbus and in the surrounding major cities. It is the responsibility
of the parent to ensure their child makes it to each competition and convention. The school cannot transport dancers to competition or
convention. Any carpooling arrangements must be arranged among parents and not by the school.
Spectator fees:
Some competitions and conventions charge spectator fees, if the school knows of any; we will let you know ahead of time.
I have read, understand and agree to have my child follow the above policies and procedures in addition to the regular dance policies and
procedures and agree to abide by them. If there are duplications of policies or procedures between the competition and recreational, the
competition shall have precedence.
