TRUTH HARDWARE POSITION DESCRIPTION Position: Quality Control Engineer I Date: June 1998 Incumbent: Analyst: ME Department: Quality Reviewed by:________ Reports to: Director of Quality or Quality Engineer II Approved by:________ Accountability Objective Utilize experience and technical training applicable to area assigned to provide proactive basic statistical quality engineering support (in the areas of inspection, measuring, auditing, supplier management, new product development and process control) in a customer needs driven, continuous improvement strategy. Dimensions Team Leader of 1 to 3 non-exempt employees Annual operating budget; $100,000 Annual capital budget; $20,000 to $100,000 Nature and Scope The incumbent reports to the Director of Quality or a Quality Engineer II. The jobholder may be a Team Leader for 1 to 3 non-exempt employees. The position has an extremely broad scope of organizational involvement. The following techniques may be used; Quality Function Deployment, Voice of the Customer, Failure Mode and Effects Analysis, Design of Experiments, Design Verification and Validation, Specification Deployment Matrix, Classification of Characteristics, Process Capability Studies, Control Plans, and Statistical Techniques. The position assists staff and operations personnel in the design and manufacture of division products by providing technical support in the areas of basic statistical problem solving. These statistical problem solving tools are used to optimize new product and process designs. Similar methods are used for quality improvement on existing products. Quality Control Engineer I For Reference Only Page 1 2/17/2016 The incumbent will be responsible for identifying and procuring gaging and/or test equipment to measure the various design features. Gage error of measurement studies will be performed to assure gage/design tolerance compatibility. In order to fulfill the requirements of this position the individual must have a formal education in basic statistical quality control methods such as process capability analysis, gage error of measurement analysis, process control charting, failure mode effect analysis, and hypothesis testing. A thorough knowledge of these methods are required to discern the most reliable, cost effective, "tools" to be employed. Also, in order to put these statistical tools in proper perspective, a thorough knowledge of Quality Planning, Quality Control, and Quality Improvements is required as these methods relate to a Total Quality Management system. An understanding of Quality Systems Standards such as ISO 9000 and Gage Error of Measurement Studies is required. The jobholder must have an understanding of how to use diagnostic tools to determine root causes of problems. To perform effectively in this position an individual must have knowledge of manufacturing techniques and processes and the ability to communicate both orally and in writing in a team environment with a variety of people. This includes outside customers, internal personnel at all levels, and suppliers. A degree in engineering or science is preferred, but substitution of ASQ, Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) or Certified Quality Engineer in Training (CQIT), Certified Quality Auditor (CQA) or equivalent education and experience in lieu of a four year degree is permissible. Principal Accountabilities 1. Provide team leadership for the functional area of responsibility within the Quality Department. 2. Review, monitor and recommend changes to process and product inspection procedures designed to promote process audit and gaging consistency and efficiency. 3. Support the division by providing services in the area of statistical data collection and analysis to improve design/process reliability, cost effectiveness and quality. 4. Coordinate and follow-up the corrective action and disposition as specified on non-conformance reports and Engineering Change Orders to assure optimum utilization of division resources in the economic resolution of problems. 5. Design and conduct basic statistical experiments to optimize designs and processes to conform to customer requirements at the most economic levels. 6.
