PURPOSE OF JOB
In addition to providing specialist advice in Civil and/or Structural Engineering to the Long Products
Business, the jobholder will be required to investigate plant based civil / structural issues and either
prepare or procure FEED studies, detailed designs, specifications, drawings and contract
documents to provide the appropriate solutions.
The jobholder will ensure that Business standards regarding safety, technical performance, quality,
finance and programme are maintained.
2.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
a) Provision of specialist Civil and / or Structural Engineering advice to the Long Products
Business.
b) Assist in the design, specification, procurement, planning, installation and commissioning of
plant improvements, capital and revenue projects within Long Products.
c) Produce or procure detailed designs to meet project requirements in terms of safety,
technical performance, quality, finance and programme.
d) Assist in the negotiation and management of contracts including the selection of
appropriate contractors to satisfy the allocated project’s objectives.
e) Assist in the development of training requirements for assigned personnel to fully develop
their potential including Professional Institution mentoring where appropriate.
f) Supervise and manage assigned contracts and contract design staff.
g) Ensure Statutory Legislation requirements applicable to the project work scope are met.

VISION/CONTEXT
This position exists to provide specialist Civil / Structural Engineering support to customers both
within and external to Technical Engineering Services for the execution of projects within the Long
Products Business.

major maintenance and works support projects.
Framework partners
Procurement of engineering support services for specific
projects and management of those partners to ensure that
safety, technical content, quality, cost and programme
objectives for the specific projects are met.
Purchasing Function
Progress of requisitions and orders
TES
Liaise with other members of the Mechanical team and other
disciplines within TES

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE
The Jobholder should be educated to degree/HNC level or equivalent in an engineering discipline
and will have achieved or be actively working towards Professional Engineer status. The jobholder
should possess









Several years of engineering experience at Design Engineer level specialising in
either Civil or Structural engineering with a working knowledge of the other discipline.
Experience of working on heavy civil / structural engineering projects in an industrial
environment is desirable but not essential.
A working knowledge of building design, construction and services integration would
be advantageous.
Experience of design in concrete and steel using current, relevant design codes and an
understanding of The Building Regulations and other construction related codes of
practice.
Knowledge of CDM regulations, Health and Safety at Work Act and other safety related
legislation.
The ability to be self motivated and be capable of managing subordinate and contract
staff.
A working knowledge of contracting and site based construction activities.
Effective communication and interpersonal skills to communicate at all management
levels.
Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
