The Clinical Student Unit Co-ordinator (Physiotherapy) is a role within ASSIST and is accountable to the
Team Manager for:

coordinating and evaluating a clinical physiotherapy education unit that facilitates the learning of
undergraduate and Masters physiotherapy students.

facilitating provision of high quality evidence based physiotherapy interventions.

conducting clinical assessments of physiotherapy students undertaking placements.

liaising with Clinical Lead Physiotherapy, members of the Physiotherapy discipline and other ASSIST
staff in the development and provision of student placement opportunities.

liaising with the Physiotherapy program at UniSA in relation to ongoing provision of the student unit.

contributing to planning and professional development and promotion of research opportunities within
the physiotherapy discipline and clinical education.

liaising with the Team Manager on day to day caseload issues.


Successful applicant will be required to satisfactorily complete a Background Screening and National
Criminal History Record Check (NCHRC) prior to being employed and every three years.

The service is provided in clinic, home and community settings, requiring a driver’s license and
flexibility for some out of hours and country work.

Appropriate degree or equivalent qualification which entitles registration with the Physiotherapy
Board.

Service Delivery

Facilitate provision of high quality evidence based physiotherapy interventions by students
using a range of service delivery mechanisms.

Plan, evaluate and review the provision of a student clinical education program in
collaboration with the relevant Team Manager and Clinical Lead Physiotherapy, using a
continuous service improvement framework.

Work as a member of an interdisciplinary team to provide a range of clinical consultancy,
therapy and intervention services to adult clients of Disability Services in order to facilitate
participation and quality of life.

Contribute to the development of clinical guidelines, protocols and other resources to
increase the quality, effectiveness and efficiency of physiotherapy intervention, including
through the facilitation of student projects, evidence based questions and systematic
analyses and Honours projects.

Provide advice, assistance and support to staff and management on issues related to the
student unit and other student placement opportunities and activities.

In collaboration with the Clinical Lead Physiotherapy facilitate and design, construction,
validation and review of assessment and intervention procedures and the selection and
adaptation of alternate methodologies.

Contribute to research and evaluation of clinical practice and promote new information
and development in the field of physiotherapy and student supervision.

In collaboration with the Clinical Lead Physiotherapy, facilitate the development of student
physiotherapy services within Disability Services.

Develop and review clinical governance and risk management frameworks for provision of
services by physiotherapy students in Disability Services.

Represent the physiotherapy discipline and contribute to ongoing service development at
forums relevant to student education and supervision.

Participate in recruitment, retention and professional development activities relevant to the
professional discipline.

Facilitate compliance with legislative and organisational requirements for the delivery and
demonstration of a high standard of clinical practice within the student unit.

Develop effective communication and working relationships with physiotherapy staff of
Disability Services, UniSA Physiotherapy program, other student coordinators and other
external stakeholders.

Contribute to effective working relationships with staff and management from DCSI and
other organisations to maximise collaborative responses to the provision of physiotherapy
student learning opportunities.

Develop formal networks with tertiary institutions and work collaboratively with the Clinical
Lead Physiotherapy to promote and coordinate professional education and training
programs, student placements and research in the area of disability.

Participate as a member of an interdisciplinary team.

Understand and follow workplace safety initiatives, identify hazards and contribute to a safe
working environment, as well as follow procedures to manage and minimise risks within the
DCSI.

Follow the principles of a sustainable working environment by following departmental
greening initiatives.


ROLE SPECIFIC CAPABILITIES

Clinical Supervision Experience – utilise experience in development of clinical service delivery models and student learning to
develop, evaluate and review new student placement opportunities.

Clinical Intervention – select and utilise suitable diagnostic techniques, analysis of information and clear decision making in the
planning, developing, implementing and evaluating of clinical interventions.

Physiotherapy and Clinical Education Knowledge Base – Sound knowledge of neurological diseases, intellectual and
physical disorders and the Physiotherapeutic management of these conditions, as well as the impact of these on an individual’s
ability to in the community.
Experience in the supervision of students that has provided the knowledge and skill base to plan, develop and facilitate
Physiotherapy student placements.

Multidisciplinary Teamwork – effectively communicate and work with people from diverse professional backgrounds and work
as a team member to facilitate group functioning.
