Dear NDT Pediatric Course Applicant:

Thank you for your expressed interest in the NDT/Bobath Certificate Course in the Management and Treatment of Children with Cerebral Palsy and Other

Neuromotor Disorders offered with the collaborative support of Children’s

Rehabilitation Center in White Plains, NY . This is an exciting and intensive training course for physical therapists, occupational therapists, and speech and language pathologists comprised of both theoretical and practical work. The material presented in the course is based upon the theoretical and practical concepts developed by Dr. Karel and Mrs. Berta Bobath and conforms to the standards established by the North American NDT Association, Inc.

This course will be held at the Children’s Rehabilitation Center at 317 North

Street, White Plains, NY. Please note that this is an intensive weekend format

(typically Fridays through Sundays). There is an intensive segment lasting 1 week,

Friday through Thursday (Sunday is a free day), in March and an intensive segment lasting 9 days, Friday through the following Sunday, in August. The number of days in class will total 30 with class running between the hours of 8:00 am and 6:00 pm.

There may be slight changes in the hours to accommodate special circumstances but you will be informed, in advance, of any changes. There may be evening sessions that will be scheduled during the course with adequate time to make arrangements.

Before the start of the course, you will receive a reference list of materials that will help you prepare for the course. The course is taught by a team of professionals from the disciplines of physical and occupational therapies and speech and language pathology. Additionally, other appropriate professionals will assist in the course.

This course curriculum is outlined to include a minimum of 263 hours, inclusive of lectures, group work and presentations, discussions, demonstrations, and patient treatment. The course will cover: fundamentals of NDT philosophy; neurophysiology as it relates to NDT; typical and atypical movement development; fine motor development and sensorimotor aspects of development of functional skills, typical and atypical development of pre-speech, speech, and respiratory and

feeding function; lower extremity development and the progression through space, including gait; and treatment principles and application.

The course is limited to a total of 24 therapists, including physical therapists, occupational therapists, and speech and language pathologists. The selection of participants is based on the criteria set by the NDTA Instructors’ Group in collaboration with the NDTA, Inc. Board of Directors. These criteria relate to the applicant’s experience, competency, and potential for future implementation of the skills gained during the course.

Prerequisites for admission to the NDT Course:

1.

One-year professional experience with children with cerebral palsy and related neuromotor disorders.

2.

Current employment and direct clinical caseload of children with cerebral palsy.

3.

Physical ability to fully participate in all aspects of the strenuous nature of this course.

4.

Current registration or licensure as required by your profession. Speech pathologists must have their CCC.

Selection Criteria

Qualified applicants will be accepted into the course in the order the applications are received (rolling admission), subject to their discipline (OT/PT/ST). Acceptance is based on the applicant’s experience with children with cerebral palsy, current therapeutic responsibilities, and pediatric related continuing education.

Tuition

Tuition is $4,500.00 for NDTA members and $4,750.00 for non-NDTA members.

NDTA membership dues are $105.00 per year. To complete a membership application, go online to www.ndta.org

14 days of receipt of application. Your acceptance contract with $500.00 down payment will be due within 2 weeks of notification of your acceptance into the course to reserve your space in the course. Please send a copy of your NDTA membership status and date of expiration along with your down payment if it was not with your initial application. The balance of tuition ($4,000.00 or $4,250.00) is due February 13, 2015. Any necessary cancellation must be received in writing by February 13, 2015 in order to receive consideration of a tuition refund. In case of cancellation, a tuition refund will be made only if the instructor can find an appropriate substitute by

February 23, 2015.
